Thank you to the Mods for locking this and realizing it is completely out of character for me.

EDIT: Thanks Mods for deleting the thread (even though I was still reading through it). Is there any way to trace it to see where it was posted from? I only post from work and at home, and left work at 6PM on Friday evening... haven't posted a word (or visited the forums) since then. To summarize, whoever it was posed as me and posted a contrived story about how I was at a club with my girlfriends, got drunk, had sex with a stranger and got pregnant

Just to dispel any lingering concerns (I understand your e-mail now, J.):

1. Sadly, I don't have "a couple of girl" friends here in Los Angeles. I have one, and I haven't seen her in several months since she got braces with rubber bands and has taken a break from her social life since then to focus on school.

2. I don't go to bars, and I haven't been out to a club with my female friends in 4+ months (and even then, I project a "not interested, I'm engaged" vibe... I never dance, much less grind, with anyone else besides Alice on the dancefloor). The only other times I've gone to clubs, I've been with my fiance.

3. I've never had a metropolitin in my life (I don't even know what that is)... I don't even drink when I go out, everyone else does and I'm always the designated driver.

4. I'm 110% committed to my fiance and have never cheated on him, nor even looked at anyone else and thought about cheating on him. Oh, and I'm not pregnant.

5. I'm not pregnant, although I hope to try for a child with my soon-to-be-husband in a few years.

That is all, thanks for listening. :) The thread actually helped distinguish who really knows me and who doesn't around here. It was really disappointing to see so many people fall for it so easily, and be so quick to throw around ugly names such as "whore," "slut," etc. It really shows you who's who around here.

EDIT: Here's a PM from the Mods (if it's not okay for me to post this, please let me know and I'll remove it)

I removed that thread from the forums. It was started from an IP address which comes from [country deleted, as per the Mods]. Very strange.

1. Change your password for your account immediately.

2. If you think anyone has access to your machine or your email account, change that password, as well.

This was not posted from your workplace or your home, but that seems like the most likely source for getting your info. Whoever did it also has access to a [country deleted, as per the Mods] ISP or has the ability to spoof that IP address.

You may want to get another email account. Many free, web based addresses are allowed on AT, including email.com, mail.com, netscape.net and google's new gmail.com service (which rocks). See the sticky threads in OT and HD to request an invitation for a gmail account.

Do not stop your security check with your AT account. Whoever did this could have access to more of your information, including credit card info and other, similar accounts.

Mod

Thanks to the Mods for looking out.

Yup. I'm checking to see if anything else was posted since Friday... I was at work, and spend the evening with my fiance.

Out of curiosity, is there any way to trace where a message is posted from?

Is it really that surprising?

I'm reading through the thread now. It's amazing how many people believed it... guess I should change my password now.

Only the mods can find out if someone else was using a different IP to post under Tomato's account. It'll be interesting if they have anything to say about it.

Apparently so... I would've thought he/she could have come up with something a little more interesting/original, but apparently they couldn't.

the mods or admins might be able to do a trace from what IP they were connecting from.
