Whoa, the Pentium-M processors kick a$$ in SETI!!!

Just got 2 IBM T41p (1,7Ghz P-M) up and crunching SETI... these bad boys get under 2hr/WU :Q
Both are faster than my P4 3,4Ghz HT!!!

Just... WHOA, that is all 🙂

Hey DaFinn! Woot!!

I got an upgrade last Friday to my work computer. I went from a PII-366 to a Pent-M 1.6 GHz. Like you, I was very impressed with the WU times. I have been getting 12 WU/Day.

The single WU times may be better than the P4, but I hope you are getting 2 WU in that time. So, the effective rate on the P4 with HT is almost twice that of the Pent-M. Gotta love Hyperthreading!!

But, even more impressive to me is the battery life! My Dell XPS is good to run 1 hour on battery. What a laugh! The new machine will go 4+ hours, plus they sent a 2nd battery. 🙂

Yup, forgot about HT... heh! 🙂 Well, anyways these bad boys are fast!

I also love the battery life on these things, got the 9cell battery for both giving 5+ hours to work with 😀

They are sweet but I'm getting 15-16 a day out of my new 3.0e p4 ( Outpost deal ) thinks to hyperthreading. 🙂

Same here, interesting the M chip. Have a 1.4 M chip and it also is getting about 12 WU a day.
Must be the onboard cache???

My A64 must be running >2400mhz to beat my laptop M 1.8 crushing Seti @BOINC.

One hell of a cpu. The performance per Mhz is awsame.

Pentium M chip is a hybrid between the P3 & P4 ,it has a much shorter pipeline than the P4 (even more so than the sucky prescott!😛)
And the extra cache helps too of course😉

Interesting that a Penitum M 1.7GHz is a tad faster than my XPM 2500 @2.52GHz!:Q (180FSB) ,I get 2hrs/WU dead on with a 0.4xx AR WU ,v3.03 CLI

And yeah those Pentium M chips rock!😀

At work I've got some P4 3GHz HT socked LGA pcs doin 18wu a day and they avrg about 2h48m /wu

Have some P4 3.2GHz HT HP notebooks also, but they're not that hot, irc they do about 15wu /day

Ah, I always said the PIII was the best CPU Intel put out.

If I ever put together an Intel Desktop I will grab an M Motherboard & CPU combo, not enough takes advantage (other than SETI) for the price of the HT sets.

So what are the prices for an M Combo cheaper then a frys 3.0 combo @ 149? I hear the M chips also run cooler? And lower power?

Dothans for Desktops are WAY more expensive, WAY cooler, and WAY lower power consumption. With mobo ~ $450+, barely need a fan on your HS and around 35W IIRC.

Personally my favorite is the P4 2.8E OC'd to 3.4 - 3.6 ghz
The last two I built did 20+ WU's a day during burn in. 😉
All that cache with higher frequency really whoopsass in seti.

So Dothan is the Code name for this thing? I had no idea that the cache was 2 Meg, wow

and yes, it runs extremely cool even with SETI running
