Railroad Tycoon 2, I remember playing this game way back when. I remember one of my moms co-workers husband played railroad tycoon 1 on his computer and I thought it looked cool... I got RRT2 and started playing and was like, "This shit is awesome, but I suck!"

Playing it again... RRT2 platinum, mother fucker, this is hard on anything but easy difficulty. Seriously, how the fuck do you play on hard/expert? The other companies just RAGE ON ME. I DON'T GET IT. I watch what they're moving and it's almost always just fucking passenger cars and mail! WTF?!

This shit is really advanced and has lots of depth... does the campaign shit fill you in on how to be epic win or am I just gonna have to like.... fail forever?

Btw, I can't play this damn game in Windowed mode in Windows 7. I try it in the options area, but it keeps saying bullshit about my res not being high enough outside the game. (1920x1200 ffs) So, something is bugged there. Any ideas of how to force it into windowed mode? (-w to target doesn't work)

Take raw materials to a processor and sell the goods at a city accepting them? If I remember correctly you could also buy the processing plant.

It's personal networth. It's way different. You have to play the stock market and shit somehow. :/

RRT2 is a great game, I think I'm going to try to install it on my netbook when I get home from work.

the stock market part of the game can actually be pretty easy. You just need to know how margin works. The game is just like real life. the bank will lend you up to $0.50 for every dollar that you have to buy stock, but if they lent you $0.50 and you now only have stock worth $1.20 they'll make you give them $0.10 back so that you have $0.80 invested, and they have lent you $0.40. (if you don't get this, i'd suggest reading wikipedia's article on margin, it's very important to get this to understand the rest)
Where this gets interesting in the game is that you'll have to sell stock to 'make margin' Generally the best strategy is to buy as much of your co. as you can, and use the increases in the stock price to keep on buying on margin until you own the whole company. However, if you have all your money in your own co.'s stock and you get hit with a margin call, you'll have to sell some of it to 'make margin'. This will cause the price of the stock to go down, making your investments worth less. Since the bank is only willing to put up $0.50 for every dollar that you have in your investments it will immediately trigger ANOTHER margin call, forcing you to repeat the process. This can turn into a loop, wiping you out, so avoid at all costs.

Ok, now that we know how margin and margin calls work, it's time for the stock market strategy, which is pretty simple, since the railroads generally make money, and almost never go bankrupt. (unless yours does because you play poorly) Buy as much stock as you can without getting hit with a margin call. generally focus on your own railroad, especially if you can turn it into a cash cow. No need to be biggest, just most profitable. Focus on buying your own stock, because once you own all/most of your co. you can crank up the dividend when you want, funneling money from your co.'s pockets to your pocket, but you might want to buy a little bit of other railroads as well, because if you only have 1000 shares of a competitor, and you can sell that to make margin, you don't care that you pushed their share price down.

Hey, I just installed RRT2 on my netbook. Does anybody know how to get it to play without the CD? I really don't want to lug my external around everywhere. Do I just need to rip an iso and put it in my DaemonTools fake drive?

I think that will work.
