Whoa- ROTK DVD rumor...

Hee, nifty. My friends and I were joking that the director's cut would hit 5 hours outside the theater after seeing King.

Direct translation from the bit about the length of the film

"Is it true that your first cut of the Return of the King was over 4 hours long?
It actually was 4 hours and 50 minutes

Who cut it down to 3 hours and 20 minutes?
That was me

Why?
Because you cant invite people to a movie theater and expect them to sit so long. Three hours and 20 minutes is on the edge of being too much. But so it happens, people get tired and then the become unhappy..... (and so on)
On the other hand its totaly different with dvd's, then people are at home and can lie on their sofa or can spread the movie over three evenings. It gives a whole new dynamic, I can garantee you that the dvd version of the Return of the King will be alot longer than four hours and 50 minutes"

!!!!!!!!!!😀😀

my danish is anything but perfect but I'm sure I got that last bit correct 😀😀😀

What's the real ending? I saw the movie last night and I thought it was sweet so I'd love to know how it really ended.

"Peter Jackson promishes that the extended edition of ROTk will be longer than his original cut (4h 50m)."
Duh--it's the extended edition...of course it's longer. If it weren't it wouldn't be extended.

Hobbits go home, find Saruman has ruined everything. They kick his butt, take him prisioner and let him go without killing him. Wormtounge snaps and kills him, the hobbits kill Wormtounge, and then rebuild the Shire. Then the whole ship scene takes place, and the book ends.

Oh, in the "post script" it says Aragorn found a replacement for the white tree in the mountains and died happy and Arwen had a miserable couple years without him and then died in Lothlorien. It then says Sam lived quietly in Bag End with his wife, Pippin and Merry became the nobility of the Shire (and partied a lot), and ultimately Pippin, Merry and Sam boarded a ship with Gimli and Legolas and left middle earth for the west.

If there really is a 4h50m cut, it will be too long. IMHO, the ending of the theatrical cut is too long already. Jackson got a bit too indulgent at the end, he should have cut at least 5 more minutes out. That being said, I still really liked the movie in general.

In the book, they come back to the Shire to find that Saruman has taken it over, so they have to kick his ass again. 😀

Edit: Oops, BoyBlunder beat me to it.

hmmm, seems like that would have been cool to throw in the movie. As it stands though I liked the movie just the way it is. Since I never read the books the film didn't have any expectations to live up to so there really was no way I could have been disappointed. I'm kind of sad that the series is finally over but it's been a fun 3 years. 🙂
