That's not secret info either. When I lived in Long Island, they would mail that info directly to our house (for average compensation of school teachers in all the school districts in Suffolk County). I don't remember if they do that here in Ohio, but I doubt it's hard to find out. My Dad found out how much the surgeons at the local Medical College Hospital make, because they're public employees.
BTW: In New York, public school teachers make a crapload. In '95, the teachers in our district were making over $80K, and I lived in one of Long Island's worst school districts.
