walked by the kitchen, there was a can of jalepenos sitting on the end (opened, cleaned out, we recycle and put cans on the end of the counter to be bagged and put in recycling)

i literally smelt jalepenos like the can had just been opened.. so badass!!!

Dude that's not synesthesia.

Synesthesia is when you conflate two different senses or assign sounds, colors, tastes to things that don't have them.

For example my wife has colors associated with all her letters and days of the week. So her A's are always yellow.

This. It might be hallucination.

Synesthesia is seeing sound, smelling color, etc...

that is not synesthesia. it is something that everyone experiences at one time or another--olfactory memory or something like that.

thinking about your grandfather suddenly inundates you with the clear sent of sawdust.

That happens to me all the time. Quite often I invent flavors for stuff I've seen but haven't tasted. For instance I'm totally convinced that porridge is delicious from seeing it and having my mind's manufactured "porridge flavor" suddenly appear in my mouth. It probably doesn't taste anything like I imagine it to, so I figure it's best to never taste or smell it if I can help it.

Edit: Yeah that's not synesthesia. It's a sensory hallucination of some sort.

hehe porridge that's funny stuff!

i've never had it either, but it does taste good!!

i can't manufacture that in my taste hole though? i guess because i haven't had it... the one earlier was profound though, it was like my nose hairs almost could even feel the burning of the jap flavor.
