I got my first credit card today. $500 limit.

NO going into debt for me though. I will make sure that I will not make purchases that I 100% know I will have cash for.

If I had a camera, I would have shown you guys my parents faces when they found out I actually had one :D (then they gave me a big speach about being responsible, cause they would not bail me out if I got in trouble with it.)

(now I can order all those pr0n subscriptions I always wanted :))

Can't just about anybody get a credit card these days. I mean they were practically handing them out when I was in college.

Take this advice from a semi old man. Be careful with your credit! Be careful with your credit! Be careful with your credit! Be careful with your credit! Be careful with your credit! Once you ruin it.....you are hurtin for a long time. It takes forever to get decent credit again! It is nice to have credit when you need it. When you dont have credit, life gets a whole lot tougher. Did I say be careful with your credit?

i more or less have a credit card. its really my dad's but i make any purchases i need to on it, and I write him a check for what is mine when the bill comes. he never really asks what it is that i bought, though....

Credit cards used well are a good thing to have.
They can help build credit and centralize your spending, of course thats if your responsible with the payments.

Credit cards are a good thing, they will help you get through life. BUT... be very, very, careful. It doesn't matter if you owe 95% of your credit limit all the time - whatever you do, MAKE AT LEAST YOUR MINIMUM PAYMENT ON TIME, EVERY TIME.

Obviously paying more is better. But when you go to buy a car, house, etc, it's amazing how little screwups like forgetting to send in the $30 one month will come back to haunt you.

Credit cards are indeed evil, just wait until your $500 goes to $1,000 to $2,000 to $2,500 to $5,000 and so on.

Lemme guess, you're up to your ass in credit debt. Better advice is to keep a $0 balance on it at all times, paying off any charges before the grace period ends. I know, I made minimum payments for 2 years in college and came out in even more debt. Just put the damned thing away and keep it for emergencies.

make sure you don't do what I just did today.

I have a mastercard which I rarely use... it's usually for internet transactions. Anyway, for the last 2 months, I didn't purchase anything with my creditcard so I just left the bills that they mailed to me unopened...

today, I just opened it and saw I was owing $140 with accumulated $6.00 interest... turns out I forgot I made an automatic transfer few months ago... AAK!!!

Anyway, on a side note, some dumb bank called me yesterday and approved a platinum card for me. I was in a good mood so I agreed with it and let them send me one. Anyway, I don't plan on using the platinum card, So I'll just hang it on my wall and scratch out the electronic pin on the back. It'll make a nice ornament for my room! :)

lastly, CREDITCARDS ARE EVIL. I forth that ;) (just be responsible)

Ugh! I have three credit cards(One's even a Platinum!). The problem is, I am what's known as an impulse buyer. Credit cards + impulse buying = Not too happy SpongeBob when bills come every month.

You sound just like me when I got my first credit card.. now I'm $2200 in debt (Stupid Hot Deals ;))when I originally started with a $500 credit card :( But hey on a good note, being in debt isn't necessarily that bad because I've paid $50 a month as long as I've had them and now my credit rating is very good and of course the limits of the two cards I have are at $1500 each..
