Whoa... GeForce2 2D is sweet!

I just got my GF2 today. Yeah, it kicks ass in 3D. But the thing I notice most? The white on black text at the HardOCP is suddenly crystal clear. My TNT2 Vanta was always fuzzy, & I had to zoom in to read it. I'd always assumed that running 1152x864 on a 15" 0.28dp monitor was the problem, but was willing to zoom in on one page since everything else was perfect. Now I don't have to do that anymore, & I can run my preferred resolution perfectly.

Sharkeeper...

At one time I had a GeForce. It did the same thing. I returned it. It worked perfectly in the computer shop's systems. Go figure.

It may not actually be dead...

Muwha, put it up against a G400's 2d 🙂 Damn Nvidia-heads do not understand 2d.

Hey Shark, send that one over to me - I'll check it out and use a few diags on it 🙂 (Just got a sweet one called SephAGP... lovin it 🙂)

yea foe those of you think the gf2 has good 2d you obviously havent seen a matrox board at work. My 8mb g200 looks better than my gf2. The g400 is even better.

Ok, I'm gonna get a flaming for this...but...

nVidia owners, generally, have not owned a Matrox video card or used one for more than an hour. 🙂 See, they are in a magical dreamland where anything that is readable is good. 😉 You honestly haven't experienced 2d till you use a Matrox video card. You have expectations, that is why I am very reserved in getting a new video card till the G800! I'm afraid that I will get stuck with 2d that will look like vomit compared to my old friend (g400 max if i upgraded)!!! Kinda like a P200 owner who upgrades to a P2 400 says..."WOW! This speed rules!" When there is a 1GHz CPU out there. 🙂 See, you have the P2 400 with the nVidia product (for 2d of course! 😀).

Heheheh, sorry, I just had to get that out.

Really, I'm not a matrox-head, I just believe in three basic principles:

1. Outstanding 2d.
2. Honesty.
3. Love.

In no specific order...oh hell, who am i kidding. 😀 hehehe jk!

Adam, why is it you who alllllways rags on me for pointing out how good matrox's 2D is?! 😛

I don't work at matrox, I'm a US citizen, I can't even work yet (age)! 😀 I just happen to be quite fond of the 2d. 😛

I don't know how bad or blurry/fuzzy text looks like. Seriously, I've never seen it before.

BTW - I have a G400... maybe that?s why 😉 just teasin ya'll... 😀

SSP, I mirror those sentiments. 🙂 In UT I consistently get 50+FPS at 1024x768x32...single player...even during times when a few bots are shooting rockets at my gibs. 😉 hehe

I prefer great visual kwality over great speed. 🙂

Yeah, well, you probably suck at FPS games because of that. 😉

I read once that a couple years back the winner of some big q2 tournament played in software mode, 640x480.

I'm not disputing that the 2D on the Matrox G400 board is good and better in some aspects compared to the GeForce 2. What you base your information on the GF2 boards upon is coming from second hand. You base your information on something that cannot be proven over the Internet. From what I've read in your posts, it almosts seems like the GeForce 2 has the most awful 2D imaginable on this planet, it's not. It is something that has to be physically seen. No digital picture posted on a websites review can ever come close to what can be seen though the human eye. Thats why this is a debate that cannot truly come to a conclusion on an Internet forum. It will go on and on and on.

I've used or reviewed the Matrox Mellenium, G100, G200, G400, NVidia Riva 128, TNT, TNT2, TNT2 Ultra, GeForce SDR, GeForce DDR, GeForce 2 GTS. I'll admit that today I usually look for the 3D performance from the boards first. I'll also admit that the G400 does look slightly sharper than the NVidia boards at high resolutions. What I would not want is sluggish performance when using a board that has a two dimentional display that is only barely advantagous compared to a better performing board.

Heh... I think this is going a little out of control... (Doesn't it always with these kind of posts?). I have a G400 in my peronal system, and I love it. I haven't used a GF2 yet, but I also have TNT, TNT2, TNT2U, TNT M64 (My home is like a LAN arcade!). I love the clarity of G400, and I think they are pretty much on top for consumer-level/amateur video card. I mean, the TV out is pretty good, with G-runner, video editing is the best in its class, and 3D looks nice, except it is not as fast as more recent cards. Well, I am not really a "hardcore" gamer, and don't know who would be one, since I can't see anyone being picky about the "3D" sound and something like a 20 FPS difference when we are talking about 50+ FPS. I think anything above 40 FPS is good in terms of games in high detail. 3D is nice these days, but they still have a long way to go in order to achieve true reality style 3D, so until then, I can't see what's so special about a 3D card that makes itself look just slightly better and faster. Maybe I am just ignorant...
