I remember hearing about this idea about 12 years ago. I'm sure they have improved it a lot by now. I can remember a picture of an Alpine amplifier in the trunk of a car that was use to power the speakers in the muffler.

This has got to be the stupidest idea ever, what is wrong with the mufflers on cars today ? They don't require any power or amps or speakers. For 24.95 you can get a muffler that does the job and is a simple solution.

Where there people asking Nasa for this technology ? what happens when the amp dies does the car get louder ? More crap to replace if you ask me.

If you asked Nasa to build a mouse trap it would cost 2 million and have 10,000 parts!

Ignorance.

Muffler works their "Magic" through creating more backpressure; thats why most people driving with straigth-through mufflers almost are.

Besides, a pair of more passive radiators, in the place of speakers, could be used.
There's already racing mufflers with removeable helmholtz resonators that can be engaged/disengaged for less sound/more sound.
