Latest news on that situation:

"MIAMI (AP) -- Comments made by TV analyst and former Miami player Lamar Thomas during a sideline-clearing brawl involving the Hurricanes and Florida International will be edited out before the game is replayed later this week.

Thomas may also lose his job with Comcast Sports SouthEast, a regional cable network available in 5.5 million homes"

We will take appropriate disciplinary action," CSS general manager Mark Fuhrman said Monday. The network will replay the game Wednesday.

Thomas made his comments as dozens of Miami and FIU players stormed the Orange Bowl field and fought during the third quarter of their teams' game Saturday night, an incident that led to the suspension of at least 31 players and forced officials from both schools to publicly apologize for the melee.

"Now, that's what I'm talking about," Thomas said as the brawl raged out of control. "You come into our house, you should get your behind kicked. You don't come into the OB playing that stuff. You're across the ocean over there. You're across the city. You can't come over to our place talking noise like that. You'll get your butt beat. I was about to go down the elevator to get in that thing."

Miami and Florida International have campuses 9 miles apart in Miami-Dade County. It was the first meeting between the two programs, and the Hurricanes went on to win 35-0.

As the fight slowed, Thomas' comments continued.

"I say, why don't they just meet outside in the tunnel after the ball game and get it on some more? You don't come into the OB, baby," Thomas said. "We've had a down couple years but you don't come in here talking smack. Not in our house."

A tape of the fight, including Thomas' comments, was available on the Internet on Sunday and Monday. The game was available for viewing Saturday night on a pay-per-view basis.

"We do not support or condone any of the comments that were made by Lamar," Fuhrman said."

He seems to be very proud of the Orange Bowl...

1 game suspension seems light, especially for kicking people that are down and swinging helmets.

Hmm.. 13 + 18 players. Seemed like more than that out there fighting. Funny how few of Miami's starting players got suspensions.

So, they're 9 mile apart.... When do the "drive by's" start?

I got a grad degree from FIU back in 03. Not a huge school by any means (undergrad was from a big10), but a very fast growing one with a lot of aspirations and the possibility of being a massive school in the near future.

The president of the school, Modesto Maidique, has an impressive history and has added a growing b-school, a law school, and an upcoming med school. They only started their football program in 03.

I am sure Maidique isn't too happy with this situation. He's a pretty demanding guy (I worked directly for him ~6mo as a graduate researcher) and he's a no-BS, shrewd guy who wants to make that school one of the best in FL. This certainly won't add to it's positive image.

As a grad from there, I can say that I am a bit disappointed. The only time anybody really hears about my school it's in the news as a big thug brawl. Thank gawd my experience and other education/certifications helps.

Miami made the suspension of one player--sophomore sometimes starter at safety Anthony Reddick-- indefinite. FIU dismissed two from the team, made the 16 other players' suspensions indefinite.

Miami Analyst Fired for Brawl Comments
Ex-Cane Thomas Supported Miami-FIU Brawl on Air
By TIM REYNOLDS
AP
MIAMI (Oct. 16) - Former Miami player Lamar Thomas lost his TV analyst job Monday over comments he made during a sideline-clearing brawl involving the Hurricanes and Florida International.

Comcast Sports SouthEast, a regional cable network that hired Thomas before the season, also decided to edit out his comments before the game is replayed later this week.

"We do not support or condone any of the comments that were made by Lamar," CSS general manager Mark Fuhrman said. The network, which is available in 5.5 million homes, will replay the game twice Wednesday.

Thomas was a third-round draft pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1993 and spent six seasons in the NFL, three with the Bucs and three with the Miami Dolphins.

He has a Gainesville address, but there was no listed telephone number for him in that area. He could not be reached Monday.

Fuhrman said CSS consulted with Miami officials before determining what action needed to be taken. Miami recommends on-air personnel for its broadcasts, Fuhrman said.

LMAO that commentator talking is a fvcking douche. They should tell him to get in the elevator, right into his car and never come back. Why would they even let some thug like that do that sort of thing?

That announcer is Lamar Thomas. A former WR at Miami.

Here is Lamar Thomas getting punked by Alabama's George Teague in the '93 Sugar Bowl.
Wow, even more impressive than I had remembered.

Absolutly laughable on the part of Miami. Declaring the 12 one game suspensions and 1 indefinate suspension, just punishments. Bullshit. The ACC or NCAA should step in since Miami couldnt punish itself.

The ACC and Miami agreed on the punishments. That would leave the NCAA but they generally leave decisions like this in the hands of the conference and the school.

Two players from FIU were dismissed. The other 16 players had their suspensions extended from one-game to indefinitely.

The ACC initially gave them one game suspensions. In theory I believe they thought Miami would further punish the players.

Miami is a fvcking joke. The school is an embarassment to college athletics. Its President is an embarassment to academia, and Larry Coker is an embarassment to coaches.

Miami's president and Coker should now be fired for the handling of this situation. It would happen at any other school.

Something needs to be done about Miami. Even though they didn't start the fight with FIU, they have a long history of starting fracasas. It was just last season that they went into the tunnels of the Peach Bowl in an attempt to intimidate LSU and got in a brawl. Then there's the stomping of the opponent's logos which usually results in fights.
