I don't know if it is rigged, but they do allow people to use programs that give them an unfair advantage. And they will be blocking US players from playing soon.

What evidence do you have to back this up? Do you make this claim simply because you got your ass handed to you and lost all your money?

None obviously, not to mention that programs do a pretty poor job playing against competent people.

It isnt rigged. I have several friends who play regularly and all make money. ... they are also all PhD students in math and study the game a lot/read books about poker ...

Well, it's rigged in the sense that the house is guaranteed to make money by taking a rake. But then, that's no different than most anywhere else. The only exception is that the rake on line is generally a lot less than you would pay in a casino.

You probably should check your facts before you post about something like this.

There are no programs that give players an "unfair advantage".

Either he's talking about Pokertracker/PAHud or stuff like that, or the cool websites that show you have to view your opponents cards and what is coming out of the deck and all the other good stuff out there.

And to the guy talking about the online poker ban in the US, WTF exactly are you talking about?

Since when is online gambling not illegal here?

That's why the online casinos are all located in other countries.

Edit: It seems that taking bets online is illegal under the current law, but there is some debate over whether making bets is (and obviously the government has been doing nothing about it). The house just passed a bill to clarify the existing law and make it illegal to place bets online, but it has not been voted on in the senate yet.

Yeah... what rock have these people been living under?

Not only has it been illegal since... at least as long as the sites have been around, there are bills floating around that will make it illegal for credit card companies authorize payments to gambling websites.

That's not how most get their money to the sites anyway.

As for the legality, sure things may change but the fact that recent WSOP winners have been out in the open WRT their online play, I don't think many small time players have much to fear.

Uh, no. It's always been illegal. They just decided to prosecute some of persons who run offshore sites which take money from US Citizens.

it may be illegal, it may not be. it has never been tested in court whether online poker is legal for participants. the only thing that is clearly illegal is to run an online casino in the U.S.
