Well, heres what I did on Sunday. I bought 2 sticks of 256 MB PC133 Micron Ram. Good buy at $60 I thought, and I also bought a 60 GB 7200 Western Digital hard drive. My problems since then have been rather ridiculous. First off, I tried the Ram and that went very smoothly. Then I started backing up my PC so I could setup my other 60GB drive in RAID-0 mode. First thing I noticed was that the PC was crashing like a little hoe, and 2000 wouldnt even boot up with the new memory. So I thought to myself, "Self, just back this crap up and whack it one.". I figured my problems would go away with a fresh install. Anyhow, the drive I bought was either a Dud or something was very wrong with my PC, because the drive wouldnt work at all. Tried 3 seperate controllers(Normal IDE channel, Highpoint 370 RAID, and Promise ATA100), and tried it Master/Slave/Cable Select. No go on any of the above. Well, I decided to ditch the hard drive all together. So, I figured again to my lonely personage, "Self, at least I got 768MB of RAM now!". Satisfied that all would be peachy after a reinstall and a clear-CMOS and the settings tuned as low as they would go. No agressive memory timings, none of the other things that could cause instability. Oh, thats another thing. Before my format it kept on giving me a "running out of memory" error. Also. my sound card has been a real piece of guano through this also. I think some of my problems stem from that. Anyway, Ive had it lock up a few times on playing sounds now. Ive switched PCI slots and also have made sure their were no IRQ or other resource conflicts. So, my problems in a nutshell- Instability after adding 2 256MB sticks of name brand RAM, and all my settings have remained the same. Im going to attempt one other thing, turn the memory clock down to 100Mhz. If this fixes it that means this RAMs going back too. Damn those gypsies that sell crap at computer shows! Oh yeah, my board is as follows- Abit KT7 RAID(Latest BIOS also). Thanks for any info you secluded jedi masters have to offer.
