3GB/sec transfer rate..

I've never seen anything load so fast..
It's quiet also..

Hmmm, that doesnt seem right. I mean, the 15k disks are fast, but that is way beyond what you would expect for disk transfer speeds. But nice anyways, if I had the money, I would run SAS disks.

I think he meant Gbits, not GBytes.

3Gb/s = ~ 375MB/s

He's not seeing transfer rates like that, that's just the speed rating of the SAS.

Maybe from the cache on the drive, but not from the platters that's for sure.

Yea alot of people (admins) would kill for a single drive with that speed.

Oddly enough the burst speed on my pair of Hitachi 15k sas drives in raid 0 is lower then the average read. I'm guessing it may have more to do with my crappy $60 Promise controller card then the drives themselves; but there it is. My burst is around 95mb/s and my average read is in the 150mb/s range.

Give me a call when the SAS drives aren't five times as expensive as SATA. 😛
