Grizzly. There is nothing that the men could do to hurt the bear. Arrows even have a hard time piercing the hide of a grizzly. What the heck are fists going to do?

The muscle structure is different in many animals as compared to humans. Gorillas are stronger than comparable sized people for example.

Also, unarmed men have very little to fight with. No real teeth, claws, etc. The attacks wouldn't even be felt by a full-grown bear. However, an interesting alternative is posed. If all 10 men were infected with some horrible biological disease, they could in time kill the bear by exhaling or squirting bodily fluids on the it.

When california was first settled, one of the spectator sports of the day was to tie a giant grizzly bear to a pole in the middle of an arena and then release a really pissed off spanish bull into the ring. Some bears, even teathered to the pole, would take down up to three 2000 pound spanish bulls with 2.5 feet of horns on either side of their head before they finally fell.

An unrestricted bear facing 10 unarmed men....well...you better be getting 10 6ft long rubber bags with zippers ready.

Anyone ever hear about the matches back in ancient Rome where they used to have bears fight gorillas? A gorilla is much stronger than any man, weighs more, can take more pain, etc. The gorilla got its butt kicked (torn off more like it) every time. With one swipe the grizzly could take the head off the gorilla.


Bottom line, don't mess with a grizzly.

exactly. This isnt some cheesy martial arts flicks where one person attacks at a time. You surrond a bear and when one man is facing the bears back, jump on it, gouge its eyes out, from there, its pretty much over.

And how exactly would they kill the bear? Punch it to death? Break its huge neck? Smother it with the corpse of one of the first to die (or the guy who ticked you all off with his stupid locker room gags)?

I'd really like to know what an unarmed man could to to a bear that would inflict any kind of harm.

Jedediah Smith survied a gizzly bear, although he didn't kill it. It all depends on what you mean by win.

That's what I'm thinking. I guess they could suffocate it, but I'm not so sure how a bear is going to like some 180 lb fly hanging on his back while choaking him.
