Who would watch an American live-action remake of Akira?

Nope. Did not really like the cartoon, so no impetus to watch the live-action remake.

The movie made watching Shameless a bit more interesting... given it became Goku having relations with Bulma. 😛
Akira is overrated, but Grave of the Fireflies is good.

Was too bored to tear up - the film lost me well before the end. I was ~16 at the time though, so maybe my mindset would be different in my older age.

I enjoyed Akira, though I don't watch it very often. My wife likes GotF, but I have to say, I was glad when it was over 🙂

Akira was great, I would definitely watch a live action remake. Whether or not I would like it is another story, but I would give it a shot.

I might watch an hbo series remake of the manga. Anime butchered it in my opinion.

Probably not. There wasn't even any tentacle rape in Akira.
If they are going to do a live action remake, it should be of Urotsukidoji.

afaik the matrix is anime-inspired, but not based off any actual anime. also some things translate better than others. e.g. ghost in the shell would translate into a pretty awesome cyberpunk movie. akira is very over the top and a lot of care would be needed to make it not come off corny.
