Who would have thought bridge-building was like crack? Pontifex is the greatest game. Ever.

i remember downloading this to help design my macroni bridge for my physics class bridge competition.
very fun puzzle indeed :)
it's amazing how strong the tension force is in the suspension bridge cables compared to the compression/tension/buckling forces of the steel beams

Wow, this brings back memories. I'm going to fire this up right now. Games + physics = simple fun.

No callout threads. ;)

I hope this isn't Flash-based. "Complex physics engine" + Flash = severe violations of physics.

OpenGL.

Makes my quad work out severely ;)

pre-emptive "this is not where I got my user name from"

If I remember correctly, pontifex was the name of an encryption algorithm used in the book Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson

No widescreen support. :(

Oh well, it supports windowed mode, so that's fine.
My lvl2 bridge would have killed lots of people, and probably caused many bowels to release their contents, but it held the train after half of it collapsed.

Up to lvl 8 now. My lvl7 bridge passed with 564 broken links, and the train got a little wet. But the bridge held. :D

That "Fantastic Contraption" game needs to be rewritten to use this kind of physics engine.

Ok, finished all 10 demo levels.
I think only 3 of my bridges worked fully intact. The rest collapsed with several hundred link breaks, but most of the deck was above water, so the train could pass. You can actually get some air-time out of the train too, but it'll keep on going. The budget was always a problem.

I've gone up through 8 with no linkage breaks, but 9 is causing me problems. I remember playing (and beating) this exact demo back in junior high maybe. I don't recall if I ever did it with no broken links, though.

Some of my Trains achieve Air upon exiting the Bridge, but Bridge Passes. One Bridge had the above Deck Arch completely collapse and fall into the water, the Deck Passed anyway. :D

Somehow I think the General Public would not be so generous with my creations. Although, I came way under Budget on most.

i've never even seen screenshots of it, let alone played it.

wow heavy steel and cables FTW those 10 levels were way to easy, only had two that gave me issues.... and whats up with level 9 and 10, can't use the blocks in the middle?

Wow. I must be doing something wrong. My biggest problem in almost every case was the budget, and often it would result in the bridge collapsing, though generally with the deck still (mostly) above the water.
Moral of the story: If you ever see a bridge that I designed, and did so in less than 10 minutes, don't cross it. :p

If it's what I'm thinking, you need to move the view Forward and Back in order to connect to them.
