Who would go around a track the fastest?

So I was watching this video with my buddy and there was this huge road/sand/gravel course, like one you see the rally cars use. We were trying to figure out which machine would make it around the track in the fastest time but didn't really know! I have no clue really, I was thinking the rally car would either be the fastest or the slowest, and the dirt bikes & 4-wheelers to be pretty close. Any ideas??

4-wheelers are pretty slow, I'd put it in last.

The rally car wins on top speed, the dirt bike has handleing and acceleration in its favor. If the track has a whole lot of sharp turns, I'd say dirt bike, if its a dirt track thats mostly straight or wide turns, I'd say the car. Because its most likely a happy medium, I'd say its a toss up.

Actually there was a clip of a dude on a sport bike (the way he handled it and what not, he looked liek a pro) racing against a guy in a car. The car smokes it pretty bad. I wouldn't have thought so either. I"m sure more knowledgeable fellas will come in to provide the link and/or more informed opinions.

some of the neweer sport bikes (the yamaha yzf450 i think its called) are insanely fast.

now we need to define are we talking stock cars, or modified cars. stock bikes/quads or modified?

it depends on the surface conditions, rocky, the dirtbike is fuxored. hilly the bike and quad are in good shape if they can be turned into jumps, very sharp turns, the bike wins, really bumpy, the quad wins, smooth and curvey, the car wins. loose dirt, packed dirt.

dirt bikes can accelerate quickly but cant get traction on rocks, quads can accelerate quickly and get traction on anything. cars are good all around.

You mean the top gear accident? Yamaha R1 v Porsche 911. Anyone with a basic understanding of physics should understand the bike LOOKS faster going through corners but is actually going slower. Having two tires to grip just doens't stand a chance agains the 4 of the car.

The bike dominated straights, lost in the turns.

I'd wager on the car winning unless it was a Motocross course or something. Cars have better handling than motorcycles for the most part...sorta comes with having twice the number of tires on the ground.

BTW, I think the video that one of the previous posts is talking about has a Yamaha YZF-R1 racing a Porsche Cab. 4, or something like that. The porsche wins by a decent amount simply because it can enter and exit corners with greater speed.

Assuming a top of the line 4 wheeler, dirtbike, and rally car, it's impossible to say that one would win without seeing the layout of the track. Dirtbikes and 4-wheelers would destroy a rally car on accelerating. (my brother's racing 4-wheeler would accelerate from 0 to 90 insanely quickly - wayyyyyyyyy faster than any car I've ever seen - and I always considered him insane for ever approaching the speeds he did)
