Looks are subjective. Some preffer more conservative looking 500. Also, the 500 is several grand cheaper than the 300.

it's a new design, I would give it a year or so, see what kinda problems arise or wait till they work the bugs out, samething can be said for the 300

I do think the 500 should have an optional V8. It just looks like a car that should have an 8 in it.

It's actually not that bad. It's a more conservative alternative to the Chrysler 300. It is a bit underpowered, though that should be cured with the Duratec 3.5

no. i think they are a very "forgettable" looking car. I am not too fond of Ford products just because i think their designs are not that "new". just my .02

Somebody has one here at work. I like it better than the taurus right now. If they start pushing that as their main fleet vehicle for businesses I think they may have a good thing going.

I currently own a 98 Crown vic and would probably seriously consider the Five Hundred when my current ride heads to the scrapyard. It's getting very very good ratings currently, even in it's first model year. Of course, I wouldnt buy a first year car ever... so we'll have to see what the next few years bring. I like the way it looks and the price is right.

this was exactly the point i was going to make. i've driven the 500 and i think it's an excellent replacement for the crown vic, but a crappy replacement for the taurus.

too bad Ford wont get rid of the crown vic cause its a cash cow.

positives:

the interior is enormous. high seating positions

negatives:

suspension is way too floaty. no power from stop (although it accel'd well at highway speeds), fugly.

how is it a crappy replacement for the taurus. i test drove one, took it off the lot and had it for a day, i liked the way it handled. performance wasn't overwhelming but more than adequate for my daily driving needs. it's an improvement over the taurus.

the taurus wasn't a hot rod by any means, but it had tighter suspension than the 500. i think anyone that expects a little bit of fun out of their car will be dissappointed. crown vic owners don't expect fun, so its a good fit.
