Who will win the next console wars?

Let's examine the history first shall we? Nintendo was a giant in it's time. The NES raped the master system and then the SNES followed suit against the genisis. Then everything went wrong with the primitve cartridge based N64. It had some great games, but it failed to supply enough good games at reasonable prices due to the high cost and inefficiently made cartridge based media. The PSone effectivley won its first gen by providing a high number of games (many with them nifty FMV scenes everyone liked so much). On to the current generation.

PS2 came out before the other big names (but after the excellent-yet-illfated dreamcast). It's worthless liabrary of crappy games (save for a few good ones) and glitchy hardware did not deter gamers from sticking with it through its first year. THey were then rewarded handsomely with an excellent liabrary of games the following year. GCN and XBOX came out at about that time. Xbox offered one immensly fun game (you know the one) and GCN promised a plethora of future gems. Sadly GCN kept dissapointing gamers by publishing games that weren't quite as great as they would expect from the power house company. This along with abysmal 3rd party support sank the GCN to the bottom of the console food chain. XBOX promised immense things and never delivered. Blinx was to be the mario-killer, but it tripped over its own flaws. True Crime was said (by the XBOX magazine staff) to be infinatley better than GTA3...It wasn't anywhere close.

So the PS2 it seems has already won the war and sony has begun preparing the PS3, which will reportedly launch after the xbox2. And Nintendo is reportedly working on the GCN2 and the DS system as well (which hopefully wont become another virtual boy...but it will.) Based on all this I see the PS3 winning out the next war, and nintendo possibly going third party(if the DS fails). Xbox will be the grudging second place, but will possibly win after that.

:Q All right release the fanboys! :Q

I've heard the xbox2 will come a year before ps3 and not be backward compatible. If that's true, I can see it go the way of dreamcast.

The Xbox2 will have a 1 year lead on the PS3, The Nintendo console will ship sometime in 2006, before the PS3. I dont see the PS3 winning.

Thats a rumor, and an untrue one at that.

Yes MS is using a custom IBM PowerPC chip, but it will be backwards compatibile, and it will be using DX10.

Not to mention the selection of must-have games was exponentially larger than the N64's
