The mullahs.....

QFT
Whoever the Iranians vote for will have about the same amount of power as Secretary of State. The mullahs are basically the Executive/Legislative/Judicial all rolled into one.

and hence the only thing to do is to boycott the election

Since in Iran the President is just a mouthpiece with no authority, it does not realy matter. Who ever wins will be another nut job.

Not exactly

All elected officials have to be vetted and any decision they make can be overridden by the guardian council. And they can be overridden by the supreme leader. Ahmadinejad just agreed with them.

The Iranian president has power, but he can be overridden very easily. It sure would be nice if the Iranians would get rid of the GC and supreme leader though. The country has been stagnant for years and they aren't improving a thing. It's just more doom and gloom.

It doesn't matter. Iran is no threat. Everyone knows this.

It certainly matters, because Iran's actions affect our interests. Everyone knows this.

Iran will do nothing.

Iran does things every day that affect our interests. Everyone knows this.

Which is WHY they go to such great lengths to try and exclude candidates who they strongly disagree with.

When the mullahs decide the candidates it's not like they can ever loose.

I believe the current guy will win the re-election with a votes for him about 90%, the following day, 10% of Iranians will go missing.
