Hi,

The first name you enter becomes an administator. My question is: After installation, can you log in using the Administrator account (not this account, the 'root' (?) administrator account), and change this new user to a 'Limited User'?

TIA.

D.

Yeah. You'd use the AddAdministrator registry edit so that the "root" admin account shows at the Welcome screen.

Not really what I'm asking, I don't want to hack anything. I can log into the Administrator account in safe mode, or use the runas functionality (AFAIK).

I just want to know if it's possible to change this account to a limited user account.

Thanks.

At the welcome screen do CTRL+ALT+DEL+DEL and you get the login prompt.

Or, you can do START > RUN > CONTROL USERPASSWORDS2 and check the option that says "Users must enter a username and password to log on".

Edit

And yes, you can log on with the admin account and change the rights for that user via the control panel or by right clicking My Computer and going to MANAGE.

INCORRECT -- Just tried it, and you can't. It says you have to have at least one user with a 'Computer Administrator' account, which is really stupid, since the Administrator account already exists!

Why not just create a second account as the limited one and use that one? Yes, you should be able to use the User/Groups management tool to remove the first account from the Administrators group though.

I can remove myself from the administrator list with no issues.. I even logged in and I cant run crappy ole Lotus Notes, so I know Im not an admin.

Maybe not from the users snap in, but using the computer management one works.
