Biden won by over 7% in 2020, and Minnesota has not gone Republican in the Presidential race since 1972. I do think there is considerable backlash against the very liberal agenda pushed through since the Dems got a Trifecta in 2022 (Governor and both houses of state legislature), so maybe Trump will have a chance in 2024. In fact, I am not ever sure having Walz on the ticket would be a plus toward winning MN.

One of the most liberal abortion laws in the US, passed needlessly because MN already had a state amendment to protect abortion. One of the highest state tax rates in the nation, and failure to deliver the promised tax relief Walz campaigned on, despite a 17B surplus. In fact, despite the surplus numerous new taxes and fees were added. Providing free college tuition to illegal immigrants when it is not available to MN residents with a family income over 80K per year, even though they may have paid taxes for tens of years. And yes, liberals on this forum will not like it, but many do not approve of the free school meals program with no income limits.
Not to mention the separate issues of the Feeding the future Scandal, the George Floyd riots, and renting a 17,000 dollar per month lakeside mansion for the Governor's residence while the governor's mansion was being renovated. This cause a huge outcry, and he ultimately moved to much cheaper quarters.
 
Well, with all that, I'm still considering retiring there. I'm from FL which may tell you all you need to know. Visiting MN in late Sept in fact, kind of an advance scouting mission! (aka, inexpensive vacation). Already had one mission to Maine and various other NE states.

This may sound a bit selfish, but I hope more people like you stay in FL so that it will again be a swing state instead of being Texas East Coast.

It is a nice state, far from the lawless hellhole the Reps try to portray it as. Cost of living is higher than I would like, as are taxes. Housing can be a lot cheaper if you are willing to live in a smaller town.
Personally, I cant imagine retiring from Florida to Minnesota, but if you dont like the hot weather (doesn't really bother me) and/or the conservative political climate, I could understand it. If you live in the metro Twin Cities/Rochester areas you have access to great medical care, which has been essential for me lately, as my wife is having some serious issues. Winters, to paraphrase Woody Allen, are "divided between the horrible and the miserable", but if you are retired you can stay at home the worst days.

Did the people of Minnesota approve?

This line...

“every individual has a fundamental right to make autonomous decisions about the individual's own reproductive health,”

Protects people's rights in the state to birth control, IVF and abortion medication.
The George Floyd riots were the direct result of Derrick Chauvin.

There were studies of test scores under the free lunch program. Here are the results. If people in the state wanted it then the will of the people is being followed not dictates by conservates.

On the school lunch thing. It also ends the bullshit of “lunch debt” and frankly makes it much easier for school districts. Compared to the vast sums we spend on forms of corporate welfare making sure kids get fed at school is barely a pimple on a flys ass in terms of cost.

Whitmer has already said she wants to finish out her term as governor. I would actually favor her over Kamala as the Presidential candidate, but that is not going to happen.
 
I would love to see a Kamala AOC ticket. I doubt it would be as viable as other options, but I’ll be damned if AOC doesn’t piss off the righties for similar reasons as kamala. The epic meltdown from the GOP would be palpable

There is that. And I wouldn't move only for political reasons--you could move to a "blue" state and live on a street full of Magas. Conversely, my county is 50/50. It doesn't seem like it because Democrats don't seem to ever put up yard signs or have bumper stickers.

Main reason I want to move is the weather. I've done my time honestly. Voted for decades and the only time I would have ever considered a Republican was when I was very young. Moving left as I get older 🙂

Not sure FL will be in play. We seem to have gotten more of the right wing retiree dregs than usual lately. And the states I'd move to are hardly in the bag for the Democrats I don't think (other than possibly NY).

So the people burning down buildings and destroying property had no responsibility? Anyway, that wasn't the point. The point is Walz was very late in calling out the National Guard and consequently the situation got completely out of hand. If Walz is the VP candidate, every Rep ad will be sure to show a clip of the third precinct burning.
