I think Walz being a hunter and gun owner is a good strength. His origin story is solid Midwestern.
Yes it neutralizes the california liberal that wants to take your guns away narrative from the republicans. most responsible gun owners want restrictions on gun ownership. most gun toting liberals dont make their colors shown but theres alot of us too... just not as much as the crazies lol.

Just donated $100 to this ticket. lets fucking go

OK ... just watched the video of the rally. While this is only my first exposure to Walz ...They are both a breath of fresh air. Shapiro was good as well. leadership and passionate optimism. Completely contrasts Trumps juvenile doom and gloom and unhinged lies. People are sick of feeling dread and fear. Somewhere, some wall has received a new ketchup stain.

Trump is going to have to find another gear soon because one rally a week is not going to cut it when these two are barnstorming the swing states relentlessly for the next three months.

I mean part of the decision in choosing a vp candidate should have included an investigation into if that person could win in 8 years. In my mind I had that as a priority. I like to think long term like our enemies.
Eh. The more important point is to make good decisions now so you can use your political power while you have it. Playing some long game to try and maintain political power seems like a poor idea when trying to pick a VP candidate. Sure, there may be a secondary consideration there, but the primary consideration is having a good governing partner in the now and winning an election. Given the shifting political climates and issues, it's pretty much a crapshoot that the person you pick today will be willing to run in 8 years or amenable to the voting populace at that point.

The Dems have a deep bench with folks like Pete, Whitmer, Shapiro, Newsom and others, there is literally zero need to worry about an election in eight years, where you'd still have to run a primary. He is the right man right now to preserve democracy with Harris, so we can even have elections.

This describes basically every VP pick ever. Not like I had any clue who the hell Senator Joe Biden was in 2008.
:colbert:

look man...I know you, you know me. Honestly, this is probably the only thing I've ever heard you say or type that I really don't believe.

He reminds me a John McCain. Yes he looks old IMHO. I just want the enthusiasm to continue if she gets to the white house. The dems should be courting gen z and millennials and I think they would find Pete more appealing. Heck I do and I'm not much younger than Walz. Age is important to dem voters. Just ask Biden.

it really doesn't mean anything right now. Let's say we are talking about new Dem candidates in 8 years. That's a long time for things to finally move on. I never thought this country was ready for an Obama back when he first won the Senate in 2004 and was immediately being talked up as the next big thing...didn't expect him to even consider 2008, let alone walk away with that thing.

A lot can happen. The kids that want the younger people right now are going to be a bit older and wiser, probably still want the same thing, which means the country will have moved more with that and most importantly: they will have more clout in making these changes happen.

save your diaper. that's for gotheuvos.

Yep, there's nothing guaranteeing Walz would run again, or win primaries, in 8 years.

I'm not particularly worried about 8 years from now, personally. Clear and present danger right now. While I think it's good to think ahead, it's been encouraging to see a number of up-and-comers not named Newsome. Beshear, etc.

Even if you think Walz looks and sounds old (he looks a bit older than he is, sounds what you'd expect), compared to Biden and Trump he's a spring chicken. If they win twice, he'll be 10 years younger by then than Biden was in 2020.

Dude looks like one of my best friend's dad, who is a rabid Republican and 24/7 Hannity viewer nutball (dude was literally walking around with a tablet in his face, 4 years ago, for like 4 months while renovating his old beach house on his own, during COVID).

I think this is a good thing, tbh.

Well in-case anybody is wondering, Tim Walz got a DUI in 1995 for driving under the influence doing 96 in a 55. I mean considering the GOP is claiming that a Felony conviction is a good thing, I really don't see a problem with a DUI from almost 3-decades ago.

This guy is a fucking assassin.

I get it now.
I’m liking this guy and I’ve only known him for about an hour.
He looks older than he is, finally time for Gen X to get shit done. I am really liking what’s going on so far. They are out to win and are willing to talk about successes and how weird their opponents are. He even said something about he’s a normal guy he doesn’t piss in a golden toilet.

Don’t care and honestly this flaw makes him even more likable imo.

I don't get the camo thing...
And Walz is also known for wearing camo hats, (and recently challenging fake gun nut JD Vance out to an actual pheasant hunt, among other points) Yes, Walz is pro-responsible hunting and was supported by NRA while in congress, but also pro reasonable gun control as governor (which caused the NRA to go apeshit on him more recently).
