Who will be buying a 7800 GTX 512?

Depends on how reasonably priced they are when I upgrade some time next year. Right now I'm not playing anything that needs more than my 6800-plain.

at monarch, they're $700 some odd dollars... I don't know about the rest of you, but the only video card I'm willing to pay that kind of cash for is a quadro... even even then it's a sh1t ton of money. I'll wait until next year when they should be at least down to $290 or 300

my unlocked 6800 still handles games nicely, a 7800gtx 512mb would be overkill for me

I'm building a new system for christmas, I think I'll get ONE of these, and even that might be pushing my buget. I'll have to go cheap somewere else. I'm trying to keep it under $2,000 and with a 7800GTX 512MB, it's kind of hard with that being nearly a 3rd of my buget.

Depending on the price, I may take advantage of the eVGA step up program and upgrade my 7800 GTX KO. However, I'm not sure it would be worth the effort, since I removed the stock heatsink and fan to watercool the card. Finding a similar thermal pad and replacing the heatsink will not be fun.

Its not worth the price jump from a normal GTX for the ~5% boost in performance its likely to have.

I don't think I'll go for 512 MB this generation.

However I could certainly see myself going down that route next time around.

I doubt this card will be available in such quantities that the price will go down to much in the future. More likely the next gen mainstream card will beat the 512 gtx in both price and performance, much like the 5950U.

This card is way to expensive for me to even consider it.

exactly.. with the product life cycle.. a 8800 card would probably come out and wipe the floor in 3 month..
