Who watched "Dead Like Me" this Friday/Weekend

So this Friday a new series premiered on Showtime (to fill the vacant slot Stargate SG1 left when it went to SciFi) called Dead Like Me, about an 18-year-old college dropout who dies in an untimely falling Mir debris accident and discovers she's now obligated to become a Grim Reaper. I missed the premiere but I caught the reruns on Saturday and Sunday. I thought it was pretty solid, though the last 15 minutes or so were kinda sad and creepy and generally a bad way to end the show I thought, even with the semi-uplifting ending. The oddly mournful/uplifting rendition of Que Sera Sera didn't really help matters either. Definitely very funny however, which I think was what was lacking with the other series Showtime has tried to fill the Stargate gap with. (Jerimaiah and Oddessy 5, and I know I misspelled both of those) A lot of good zingers in there as it were and a good touch of tongue-in-cheek stuff sprinkled appropriately with the seriousness that has to go with any show about death. And on the topic of death, what about the rather interesting deaths that occured in the show? I don't want to give any of the surprise away but I thought a lot of the deaths in there were hilarious but believable. The bank death in particular made me giggle.

Anywho, what are your thoughts on this those of you who saw it?

Not really. This sort of covers the other end of the coin. Not nearly as serious either.

I saw it in HD and liked it. But I've learned some disturbing news: The person who produced the first three episodes (Brian Fuller) left and was replaced by the guy responsible for the ridiculous "Touched By an Angel." We'll have to see how that goes... Somehow I have a feeling the show wont keep it's edge after that.

It is important to note that the guy you're talking about created Touched By an Angel but didn't stay on because CBS thought his vision of the series was "too dark". I remember an article somewhere saying he was irritated at the way the show went because it was so saccharine but he agreed that CBS may have made a good decision based on the overwhelming popularity of the show. Let's hope this is the show where he gets to vent all that dark morbidness he had building up inside him over the past years. Apparantly he also was part of Providence on NBC, which definitely had its dark moments from what little of it I watched.

Oh yes, I just realized that Rube (the division leader) played George on Alien Nation. Kinda weird to see him with hair innit?

I watched it, thought it was okay. Showtime can only wish it could get original series that are as good as HBO's.

Yeah, no kidding. Showtime got Stargate SG1 which was great but after that it was all crap. They even somehow managed to ruin The Outer Limits. ("Somehow" being every damn episode having a "bad" ending) HBO does seem to have a remarkable number of great series.

Isn't Showtime owned by HBO?

Well, that gives me hope :)

Not really, I got over that feeling a long time ago when I watched him as the nut case doctor on Chicago Hope.

Well - I didn't think this show was overly dark and I hope that new guy just maintains the current balance. It had a nice spin on the grim reaper and had an appropriate amount of both dark and lighter moments. We'll just have to see how it pans out for this Friday's episode.

Ep 6 was still funny without her though.
Also what ever happened to Roxy? She sort of just disappeared.

Excellent question. This series seems to have some continuity problems.
