Who wants to go Skydiving ?

Heh, yeah... wrong forum. 😉
But I am going to go skydiving... possibly very soon.
Just trying to figure out if its worth the extra $100 for the DVD and 35mm photos of my 1st jump.

I went when I graduated high school - it was an incredible experience and I paid the extra ($75) for video + stills.

Was I scared? Not until I got in the plane, but at that point I knew I was going. I remember the parachute ride being a little nerve racking, it was a tandem jump (which I assume you're doing) and when the little monkey on my back said he needed to create slack in the harness for landing, I dropped about 2 inches immediately and my heart skipped a few beats.

Looking at the door and jumping was not that bad. The best description of the entire event was that it feels like you are falling through liquid.

I highly recommend doing it at least once in your life, I am waiting for another opportunity to go again.

Are you scared ?
Have you done it before ? Was it fun ?

Discuss.

I'm a licensed skydiver but still relatively inexperienced with only 87 jumps.

Check out: Dropzone.com

It's an amazing experience and if you're wanting to go, absolutely do it.

And video is well worth it if you're not sure you're ever going to do it again. If you KNEW you'd continue and get licensed, I'd say skip it...you'll have plenty of jumps to get great video other than just another tandem video.

I'd love to go skydiving, thinking of doing it for my 21st.. Its quite expensive over here though.. Around £300 for a jump.

What on earth does this have to do with cars? 😕

And no, there is no way in hell I'd ever jump out of a perfectly good airplane.

i paid 100$ to skydive, that was a group rate with 20 other co workers

everyone - for whom it was their first time - had an absolute blast. sure it was fun, but i wasnt exactly 10000% encaptivated with it.

how did i feel? i wasnt frightened at all. when i strapped up and boarded the plane, and when we ascended in the tiny cabin, and when people ahead of me started jumping, i had the feeling of passive resignation ("eh - if i dont make it - its out of my control anyway")

the freefall actually is not at all scary , because after the first few seconds you hit maximum velocity (in a given position) and no acceleration = no "falling" feeling. i would say the funner part was after the canopy deploys, when you have time to take in the scenery, and when you maneuver around it feels more thrilling.

would i sky dive another time? sure, only to take friends who havent
would i have gone again? absolutely

wasn't scary when I did it but I did have a 'holy fucking shit I'm about to jump out of a plane I must be nuts' moment when they opened the door and I saw the first person go out. I would strongly recommend getting the dvd/pics the first time you do it, I think it was money well spent and I would have been pissed if I didn't. Also, no matter how skinny you are keep your mouth closed during freefall during the video if you don't want to see your cheeks flapping.

You mean skydiving while strapped to a car?

SUV

how bout a tank? I remember them popping light tanks out of a back of a transport plane and it would be parachuted into the drop zone. that was cool, but that plane was one big target.

I would be a bit scared of the initial jump out of the plane.
Best bet I think, would be to look straight ahead or up.
And most chutes for new jumpers have auto openers at
a safe altitude. Initial jumps are done in tandem until the
jumper feels well enough to go on their own.

One of the most fun experiences you will have. I wasn't scared, but eager to go. However, the lady in front of me was scared to death. The thing that stunned me was the speed and the complete inability to breathe with 120 mph of wind blowing into your lungs. Still, an epic experience.

i went skydiving in oahu at the north shore (dillingham airfield). it was a great experience. my brother was in the military so he got us the military rate ($100) a person as oppsed to $500. the scariest part was signing all the waivers, driving to the plane then getting in a small POS looking thing that looked like it was gonna blow up! Of course, i went tandem diving since you can't go by yourself until you've done a certain amount of dives. in addition, the tandem divers were all mentally crazy when they were on the ground. i couldn't believe i trusted my life to one of them! once plane took off though, there was no turning back! it was a great experience and i regret not getting the pictures!!!!!
