Who wants R520 Tommorow?

Thanks for confirming Kris.

Looks like the R520 won't be MASS shipped after all. Avilibility will probably be that of the x2s (4400+ and 3800+) when they were launched.

Also looks like the MSRP will be the standard price, cause of limited avilibility.

This looks to be closer to a real launch but not quite good enough yet. If they can have some minor volume by next week then it's definitely an improvement from last year's x800XTPE debacle.

Hey Kris, why don't you start a time counter like what ATi has on their site, only counting back up the time until actual availability (from launch). That'd be a hoot.

i already bought the Sapphire X800GTO and modded/oc it. But that card i bought was for my lan BOX ;( . I want to upgrade my primary computer's graphic card arround this month and i was kind of hopping of buying either X1800XL or 7800GT. I wanted to see the reviews 1st of X1800XL before i upgraded. So I am really annoyed at ATI if they do a paper launch yet again.

I wonder what they mean by limited volumes. The rumor I heard yesterday was volume wont hit the channel until Dec, 2 months from now.

ATI will and should take a lashing in the press over this. Nvidia and Intel raised the bar this year and ATI has had more than ample time to do the same.

cmon kris. Give us some numbers to work with. You don't even have to post which ones ATI and which ones Nvidia......

more than a year passed between the 6800U and the 7800GTX launches, april 14, 2004 to june 22, 2005

5900 ultra was almost a year before that, may 12, 2003

5800 was only a half a year prior, jan 27 2003

4600 was almost a year before that, feb 6, 2002

the 6 month graphics cycle pretty much died when nvidia reached the bleeding edge of semiconductor production

chill. The benchmarks aren't even out yet.

Yay for benchmarks, but GT will have his 7800GT by this weekend, when would he be able to get a r520 part? At this point, availability is as important as performance, because 10-20% better performance would mean nothing if no one can buy it...

Just what ATI really needs to do, make us a little more bitter. Did they learn nothing from the x800 series? Remember the x700xt that never made it? Oh, but all the review sites said to hold out for it, because it was just a little faster than a 6600GT :| The part that they paper launch (sounds like it will be, thanks Kristopher) later today may never be available for retail, if we look at that precedence.

From what I gathered, It will be more like AMD's launch with the x2s. Preorders will be taken by sites (like monarch), and people will wait a bit. Some lucky few will get theirs first, and others will have to wait 2-4 weeks.

Nothing like the months with the XTPE.

Ouch, looks like ATI isn't going to have enough avalibility at launch, wonder what this will do to sales of the 520 after it finally has avalibility.

do benchmarks really matter on a product you can't get? for all we know, the ati could have some decent benchmark results, and not actually ship any quantity of product until after the holidays. perhaps they just don't have it, and are using the hardware sites as their "bitches" so ppl won't be buying nvidia cards thru the holidays, hoping day after day that the cards announced tomorrow (later today actually) will finally show up in retail.....

I ask the same thing as in the comments, but I suspect I might get a quicker answer here - and I'm very curious right now.

Will we see any reviews on the ATI X1800XT when the NDA is due 09.00 (or 15.00 on this side of the Atlantic)? Well, the bottom line is, have you guys at Anandtech benchmarked a card and will release the review when the NDA is due?
