Is everyone else drinking as much as me, or just feeling super nostalgic tonight? Seems like a lot of better times threads are at the top.

edit: Sorry OP, forgot to answer your question. I never did the paid subscription, and I doubt I would consider it now.

It does seem funny now that a large portion of the userbase is so wealthy, that they wouldn't try this out again. Especially now that ad blockers have really improved, and are more commonplace.

My guess is that Anand secretly cruises through here, and is horrified by what he sees. It is like an assassin, a drug dealer, or a pimp coming to grips with the fact they are making money off the seediest parts of humanity. Except in this case it is not the seediest parts of humanity, it is merely racism, smugness, and general antagonism.

I was a subscriber then but I wouldn't be now. Forums are dead compared to back then.

I was a subscriber, I doubt I would do it again. Not because it wasn't worth it, but because I visit the forums less/participate less.

No, but i was too poor to afford it and they were beginning to be phased out. Too bad it isn't an option anymore.

What was the subscription cost back then?

IIRC $30/yr and back then when the forums were thriving, it was well worth it.

Because of the tremendous growth of the AnandTech Forums over these past few months we have been forced to impose a number of restrictions such as a limit on private messages, disabling full-text search, and bandwidth capping. The AnandTech Forums will continue to be offered as a free service to all that wish to use it however in order to support its operation we have created a premium AnandTech subscriber Account with the following features:

Increased Private Message Limit (1000 PMs instead of 100)
Dedicated Server Access with improved performance (significantly more bandwidth offered to subscribers for faster access)
Full-Text Search
Buddy Lists
No Banner Advertisements
...plus much more to come

As I mentioned before, the AnandTech Forums will continue to be offered as a free service and as the subscriber Accounts grow in numbers the access and features available to everyone will increase overall. These Forums help hundreds of thousands of users every month and are in need of your support to keep them running. We will continue to offer new features to AnandTech subscribers as the program grows.

For more information on the AnandTech subscriber program and how to sign up please visit http://www.anandtech.com/subscriptions.html. An AnandTech subscriber Account can be had for as low as $2.50 per month.

Your support is definitely appreciated; without the support of AnandTech subscribers the Forums would not be able to live on, with your support however this community will flourish and become even more useful than it currently is.

Take care,
Anand

I was and I do miss it. I'd like to see them make the Social forums subscriber-only. Of course they'd have to add in themes and get the forum performance under control. Maybe the money raised could get that done.
