Who understands duty rates?

Alright... I'm looking to bring back a car hood from Canada into the US. Can someone explain how to figure out the percentage I'd need to pay for duty?

In the

Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (2005)
CHAPTER 87

I'd classify your auto hood under this tariff number:

8708.29.20 00

which has this multi=level description:

Parts and accessories of the motor vehicles of
headings 8701 to 8705:

.........Other parts and accessories of bodies (including cabs):

................Other:

.....................Body stampings

The duty is Free from Canada into US.

SeeMe

I did the above tariff classification quickly on the fly. The Customs broker will do it more carefully, because the main tariff (linked for you above) is modified by a snake pit full of complicated notes and special provisions which I can't access fast. That means there's a faint possibility the Free rate might not hold, but it probably will.

Not sure how things work going into the US from Canada, but if you'd be importing it into Canada you'd pay Canadian sales taxes on the item.
