I know there's lots of fans here that can scream "go Lakers" or "go Knicks" or whatever, but does anyone here actually know anything about basketball and the NBA?

I know that the NBA sucks compared to college ball.

I know that the basic basketball rulebook has been thrown in the trash and pissed on by the NBA.
I know that NBA players pretty much don't get called for traveling.

I know that NBA players basically goof off for the first 3 quarters in the regular season, then actually give an effort in the 4th.

Those are the basics, what else do you need to know?

I know about basketball...is there anything in particular you want to know or are you just asking a random, pointless question.

I'm wondering what sort of responses I'd get if I was to say "what team has drafted the worst over the past 10 years" or things of that nature.

Thoughts?

Well, the college ball > NBA ball thing is just an opinion. One that may be supported with evidence, but an opinion none the less.

The traveling thing is true.

And as for the goof off thing? Well, thats the type of generalization ("Shaq is big and only dunks", "players can't shoot as well" etc etc) that I'd expect from a generic NBA fan not the type of person I was looking for.

offhand, the clippers or the knicks.

Though, the clips in the last couple of years have done much better, just cant keep them.

Because the high draft pick players eventually reach free agency status, and can go wherever they want. Most of them want to get the hell away from the Clippers, suck as Michael Olowokandi, Maurice Taylor, Lamar Odom, etc.

No, I mean I know why players leave...but why do you think they've had the worst drafting record? What about worst GMing duties overall? What about teams like the Grizz or the Sixers? I'm just wondering why you would say that the Clippers or the Knicks have had the worst drafts overall (I'm not arguing, just looking for your specific justification).

If you look at who the Knicks drafted compared to who they could have drafted (this has happened many times in recent years) you'd be as incensed as all the NYK fans out where I live. I just laugh at them.

I don't think it's the drafting that's the problem. The problem is player retention and maybe other personnel decisions. Donald Sterling (the owner) rarely hands out extended and large contracts for star players. I think the only player I know who got an extended contract was Elton Brand, if I'm not mistaken. Of course, I don't follow the Clippers as much as I do the *other* LA team.

I want EVIDENCE, people!!

Ok, why?

Because of Dunleavy over Amare? Ok, that's one mistake, but it looks like the kid (jr) can play, and a lot of other teams made that same mistake. Who should they have taken instead of Pietrus? What about J-Rich? He was the best guy on the board there (with the possible exception of Zach Randolph). And who ELSE did they get in that draft? Only one of the biggest draft STEALS in the last 10 years in Gilbert Arenas. They took Carter, and turned him into Jamison, but that worked out in the end. Foyal was a bad move. He's never panned out. But look at what he did in his first 4 years compared to what T-mac did with the Raptors. Trust me. He wouldn't have helped the Warriors any.

And yeah, Todd Fuller instead of Kobe hurts. But so does trading Kobe for Vlade.

Obviously the Warriors aren't the worst.

Any others? (I don't have a specific team in mind here. Haven't thought about it that much. Just wondering if there's anyone else out there as nuts about this as I am).

Again...how can you say Cleveland sucks at drafting? They stole Boozer from the second round...drafted Z, and while he's been hurt, if you tell ANY team they can get a center like that for the TWENTIETH pick in the draft, EVERY GM will jump on it. They stole Andre Miller with a 8th pick. Diop was a stretch, but he's looking like he might be a player. Wagner is going to put up 20 points a game before it's all said and done (although not likely with the Cavs).

Mihm wasn't a great pick, but that draft sucked and there really wasn't anyone better around. They drafted Derek Anderson, who was easily the best player around at 13. (They even drafted some other guys...Cedric Henderson, Terrell Brandon, et al) and later traded them for value. You could, in fact, make an argument for the Cavs being one of the BETTER drafting teams. No way they're one of the worst.

Golden State's been covered.

Washington? That's a possibility, although it's too early to give up on Jeffries yet. But if he, Jarvis Hayes or Kwame doesn't step forward soon, they might be a good target. They were also, I might add, hurt by trades and Jordan, and don't have the quality/number of picks they should have for a team that bad.

1993 - had #3 pick... GS took penny and traded for webber. it would have been a good trade if weber could've stayed healthy. he later decided to skip town, so they were left with nothing.

1994 - had #16 pic... cliff rozier

1995 - had #1 pick... joe smith

1996 - had #11 pick... todd fuller

1997 - had #8 pick... adonal foyle

1998 - had #5 pick... vince carter

1999 - had #21 pick - jeff foster

2000 - had #55 pick... chris porter

2001 - had #5 pick... jason richardson

2002 - had #3 pick... mike dunleavy jr

2003 - had #11 pick... Mickaël Pietrus

golden state seems to be drafting ok the past few years, but it's kinda early to tell. of the others between 1993-2000... seems like they bombed every one except 1998 (when they got carter and trade for jamison).

edit to fix mistake in 1993
