I do. to me, it's easier on the eyes because when there's light shining on it, it's more like reading off paper. that's why I've always thought laptops (and pda's, etc) should just be made with reflective screens. not only would you save all tha battery life without a backlight, but it would really be easier on your eyes. and reflective LCDs look a ton better than backilt or even transflective LCDs whenever there's light hitting them.

honestly, what's the point of a backlight anyway, besides being able to see the screen in the dark? am I forgetting something?

No, LCD's look much worse in natural light.

you're refering to how they get washed out because they are backlit and non-reflective right? if so, please read the post next time before replying. it's only a few sentences

reflective LCDs look the best in natural light of course. I'm just asking why laptops and other devices aren't made with reflective LCDs

Then your title should have been "Why aren't laptops made with reflective LCDs". Also, nowhere in your original post did you ask that question. Amazingly enough, if you actually ask the question you're seeking an answer for then your chances of getting the answer you seek should double at least. At the very least you should give it a shot sometime and see how it works out for you.

What's the point of backlight? Translucent LCD = requires light from behind to see. Have you ever tried looking at an LCD with a broken CCFL or inverter? I guess not.

heh or a color cellphone ...the screens have backlights that only turn on when buttons are pushed or calls active. in the sunlight...barely readable without backlight :)

For some reason, it's easier for me to focus on my monitor with the lights on. In darkness or low light I can't focus.
