Who thinks I'll get canned?

Alright... So I'm thinking of calling in tomorrow for work. At the last minute, my family tells me that the Boston concert that my grandfather bought tickets and a limo for is tomorrow. Basically there was no way to get it off or even try to find someone that would be willing to switch shifts to let me go. I've only called in "sick" once in the past 83 days that I've worked there. I gave them a BS reason that would make it hard for them to try and put any blame on me for showing up on that. I can't find my handbook right now to see what the stipulations are... but let's start taking our bets.

If you've only called in sick once before, I think they'll keep you. They'll probably think you have a monster hangover from the 4th or something.

It's just retail, right? (Some bread place) Retail isn't worth giving up your personal life for. Having worked it for 4+ years, believe me, those jobs are easy to come by.

That's a good idea. Call in sick and tell them you burned yourself. You can always put a lighter to a finger then show them on Monday what happened...

Normally, I would say go for it. But it being the 4th, and the MIGHT think you were hungover or something, to me that might come off as irresponsibility on your part or something. Not for drinking or anything like that, but just the fact that you have no regard for your job or something like that.

I dunno.

LOL, no regard for the job, that's a good one. Listen, if it's a job protecting people or law enforcement or something that REALLY mattered, I'd see your point. But if it's just some silly retail job that any mouthbreather could do, then I don't really think they give a sh|t.

Then again maybe they do care. I was an assistant manager for Kragen's and I cared. It really sucks to have to call in someone due to someone else not planning ahead.

If you had already tried to switch then your manager will probibly relize that you just "took the day off" really depends on how big of a hard ass your manager is

Or how about tell him that exact same thing? Well... almost :p

Seriously, if your boss is an easy guy, just tell em the situation, be careful though...

Taking a sick day in conjunction with a holiday is punishable by losing holiday pay in some companies.

Just have someone hit you in the head with a hammer. Not the claw end, though.
