Who the hell though it would be a great idea to bind backspace to the back button?

Seriously? What browser developer idiot thought this would be a good idea? It makes filling out form based pages, like forums, a pain in the ass sometimes. Especially on the sites that don't remember what you were typing when you hit the forward button to get back again.

I can use backspace in this form field without going back. You suck at the internet.

If you're signing up for a forum and type your stuff in some boxes, then hit a checkbox and then press backspace it would be an issue.
Or if you click a smiley/icon/etc button if you're doing a reply. Just because it doesn't act as a back button when typing the response in the text box doesn't mean there aren't things you could press which could cause the problem. E.g. accidental tab followed by backspace = back

I sometimes use backspace as a back button when I'm too lazy to use the mouse. It's annoying when I'm accidentally in a form field (or even worse, a search field, especially one that gets auto-focus as the page loads).

why did they decide to have a billion ways to go back and forward in a browser? and then people add gestures on top of that. i have a gesture, it involves clicking the right button and moving the move slightly right and back. why do i need another piece of software running to interpret that?

What browser is this? In Firefox here, backspace does nothing, but Alt - <-- does back.

I never knew that backspace did that. Now I know why sometimes it would annoyingly leave a form while filling it out. Thanks. But, luckilly in all cases that I've seen, I was always able just to force the browser to go forward and get all my data back (sometimes you can't use the forward button on the browser and have to use a keyboard command though).

I've never accidentally done that. Maybe it's because I never make mistakes, so I don't have to use backspace.

I have dedicated forward/back keys on the work laptop which come in handy. I don't actually use backspace all that much anymore. I often use the delete key instead, which doesn't really have any negative repercussions if hit at the wrong time.

If you use Firefox, you can change it to Alt-left arrow. I don't know about Chrome since they don't provide about:config.
