Pandering to his base.....all they want is a country....
He also spoke about the dramatic events surrounding the killing of Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani earlier this month and ridiculed environmental concerns, the report said.

The freewheeling comments offer remarkable insights into the president's approach on federal spending and the debt, which barreled past $23 trillion late last year.

Trump campaigned in 2016 on eliminating the federal debt in eight years and reining in the deficit, a key concern of Republicans throughout President Obama's two terms in office. They often accused Democrats of being excessive spenders, which racked up the deficit.

However, Trump veered the opposite direction as president, and Republicans tempered their previous criticism.

The 2017 tax cuts blew up the federal deficit, which neared $1 trillion in fiscal year 2019 — a 26% jump from the year before as it steadily increased every year in office.

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act will cost $1.9 trillion over the next decade, according to the Congressional Budget Office. Trump also signed a $1.4 trillion budget in December that boosted defense spending.

The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, a nonpartisan budget watchdog, estimated earlier this month that Trump's spending priorities will pile an additional $4.7 trillion onto the debt through 2029.

  • Trump tore into critics of rising government spending and mounting debt under his watch, The Washington Post reported.
  • "Who the hell cares about the budget? We're going to have a country," Trump reportedly said at a Friday fundraiser at his Mar-a-Lago estate.
  • The comments offer a remarkable window into Trump's approach to federal spending as the debt and deficits have increased every year he's been in office.
  • Republican calls to rein in federal spending and curb the deficits have largely died down.

Well I guess we found the root cause of his bankruptcies

He's done creative bankruptcy extremely well. He makes money while everybody else loses it. Financial artistry. Bankrupting the govt has been the GOP plan since the 80's with their starve the beast philosophy so they're really all on the same page.

If you're savvy and have no morals or ethics, then bankrupting businesses followed by writing off the carryover NOLs year after year is an incredibly effective way to make money tax-free. Problem for most people is they can't find a bank stupid enough to help them pull it off.

Remember when Republicans pretended to care about deficits and the debt?

Tha's why they're cutting off food stamps to all them moochers, isn't it? Kee-rist. The biggest moochers in the country are the richest. What did the investor class do to earn fat stock buybacks & reduced personal tax rates other than be rich enough in the first place to buy the GOP?

It's true tho.

Voters don't really care.

Only Rs care about the budget when it's a D in the office.

Ds actually do more to be fiscally responsible, but they've never really wrapped their heads around this fact, and embraced spending to win elections.

Instead you have a bunch of ppl on the debate stage arguing the best way to raise taxes selectively.

Just lie and say it's rocket fuel for the economy and pass it.

That's not accurate. Clinton reduced deficits. Obama didn't engage in deficits for political gain but rather to stimulate & stabilize the economy when that was required. The GOP does it to increase military spending, wage fruitless wars, give big tax cuts to the rich & crumbs to high earners. Trickledown? More like virga.

The Repubs gave up caring to appear to be fiscal conservatives when it became too obvious to deny that they were sucking up to the very wealthy that was way way beyond being perverted about it.

Now they've acquired the McConnell attitude where they simply don't care what anyone thinks about their corruption because it became too bothersome to try to hide it and because their working class constituency is just fine with being conned into giving up their Medicare benefits, their Social Security benefits, their VA benefits, their Welfare benefits etc. etc. just so the very wealthy can get more and more gov't welfare for themselves.

Man I bet all those small government conservatives who claimed to be in constant fear of a debt crisis from January 2009 through January 2017 are going to rally to defeat this guy by any means possible.
Is it snowing in hell?
