I always thought that Lincoln was a Republican. I know for a fact that Republicans supported Civil Rights far more often then the Democrats did. I'm pretty conservative, but i've voted for same sex marriage and fully support it. Also no problems with gays in the military. I guess you could say I oppose unions throwing their members money away on liberal Democrats, so I guess you got one right.

I'm not making any definitions up. I'm going to by liberal vs. conservative, as the first post of the topic went by. If we're going by historical use of Democrat and Republican, then that would be different.

Republican doesn't mean liberal and conservative doesn't mean Democrat and Republican doesn't mean conservative and Democrat doesn't mean liberal. Democrat and Republican are names of political parties, not the name of a political ideology like liberal or conservative.

Conservatives have been against all sorts of things that everyone likes today. It's the nature of it. Society moves on and adopts the liberal position on things like anti-slavery, allowing minorities to vote, allowing women to vote, desegregation, etc.

Thus, conservatives are really really really hateful. At least in the US. Maybe liberal and conservative is different in, say, Europe. I would think that both liberals and conservatives in Europe are very very hateful, they're incredibly racist.

There is plenty of mudslinginging in US but the hate from the right is the darker more reactionary element since the ruling classes have created these little bullshit propaganda outlets like fox and limbaugh to spread divisiveness within the working/middle classes. The left tends to critisize but in the end sees cons as misinformed fools, but.still Americans. The hate from the right is not critisism or debate it is a old time worn right-wing tradition of dehumanizing fellow citizens.


This is a big part in why con humor tends to find pain or bad luck of others funny. On the other end libs generally find the small guy speaking some sort of truth to power or gets his just comings from a large power amusing. imo one is a hater mimdset that seeks evil in a world of precieved evil. The other group does not give up on us so easily, sure, humanity is a mess, but having this umderlying paranoid nihilist view.of everyone is out to screw you must suck to live with. The far right is far more hateful than the far left, but in general I find the moderate left to be more hateful than the moderate right. Most of the people I know who are moderately right wing are pretty much live-and-let-live types while the the moderate left wing people I know tend to hate anyone who falls anywhere to the right of them. That sounds reasonable.

To add to that, I think that I find very clearly less of a hateful attitude in people of higher intelligence regardless of political stripe. Hatred seems to be the refuge of the weak mind when it comes to the realm of ideas.
