Who still burns DVD's in 2013 !?!?

I can't believe that this thread is still alive. It's almost 2015 and this was started in 2013!

Just to add my 2 cents. Haven't used a DVD drive in quite a while other than to burn a quick bootable utility for some diagnostics. And even then I usually use a thumbdrive.

i burned 1 dvd in 2014, no less.
i also PLAYED a dvd (i know, i know) this year, believe it or not. just one though.

I haven't been able to burn DVD's in 2013 for quite a while now. In a couple more days, I won't be able to burn them in 2014 either.

I actually burned a DVD today. There are a few xbox games that don't transfer properly to the hard drive and have issues. Needed to burn a DVD to get through one spot so I could continue playing on the hard drive.

I agree that it's very cumbersome and expensive to use DVDs for storage.

I don't burn any DVDs anymore, but I do use the optical drive to rip media. This is an interesting turning point folks, as far as copyright and the change in society. We used to own our things, buy a movie and it was yours you could do anything you wanted with it. If you buy a CD, you own it and you can rip and it and enjoy it. But other digital formats, you are just licensing your media and you don't own it. So there are still very good reasons to own a physical disc, and then you can rip it to digital formats yourself.

But for those who burn DVDs or Blu-ray for storage, I still think it's more expensive, difficult/cumbersome, and less reliable compared to other formats like hard drive, SSD, and flash.

DVDs are also more disposable than other media, making them ideal to give away on a whim.

Yep, this is why I still use them. I burned my brother a copy of Blue Bloods Season 2. I tried to explain the whole usb stick and then using MPC-HC to watch it and he looked at me like I was speaking Klingon.

Burning it to disk was easier and I didn't have to worry about getting my 64gb usb3 stick back.

Well I still use cd's, dvd's and every once in a while I will burn a bd. If I know that the material is subject to change frequently then I use the rw version of the media.

I always get a laugh when I read/see jokes about "who uses optical these days!?". There are plenty of people who have data caps or no access to high speed internet. It reminds me of Apple or MS telling people to just download their OS via the net if an install gets hosed (or when they make it hard to put the iso on a thumb drive).

A dvd burner is $20... bluray is down to $50-60 for an internal drive. I got a bluray on sale last month for $35. 100 blank dvd's cost around $15-20. Its a no brainer to have one around to backup, store or hand out data cheaply. If you can find me cheap usb drives in bulk for say, $5 per 4gb or 8gb let me know.

Heh, I've had that same experience. Its easier to just burn the video to a dvd/bluray format so they can put it into the set top player.

Is that 5.25" storage bay useless? I would Opt for Koolance H20 Hardware but then I rarely boot DOS or UEFI from a an Optic Disc and prefer a USB Boot: but if someone brings me a CD or DVD Disk, I can Acess or Play it with Win.

I still do it. Burning to Discs for xbox 360/ps2/dreamcast/wii games is pretty conversant.

Also, i have discs for memtest/other tools just in case i need them. It's nice to have.
