Ron Paul is the current front runner? I'm convinced enough to register republican and go vote for him now.

See what I find is sad is that I see no reason why he can't be an equally appreciated candidate with the rest of the Republicans (although considering the crops of republicans...this isn't saying much. IMO the democrats are nothing either - with obama being the only exception simply because he is much more fresh) in this.
The republicans choices are generally poor - and all the democrat choices are generally poor as well ; why does it have to be a a name race where the person will get elected based on how many people know of him?

I don't think Ron will haev a chance because the establishment doesn't like him and continuously try to push him away simply because he doesn't have the massive financial backing, as well as the household name. And IMO, to see any republican elected over him just shows that in the end its about money, politics of politics, and names and NOT what you stand for.

Please. Paul wants to abolish nearly every federal agency in existence (Dept of Education, homeland security, CIA, IRS, etc) and withdraw from or abolish most international agencies like the UN and NATO. There's no conspiracy against him. He's on the fringe because he is a fringe candidate.

What he stands for is the reason people don't like him, not because he doesn't have enough money.

That said, he is consistent and I believe sincere, which are admirable qualities.

His is a long shot, but I still rank him as my number one choice for president. A running mate for Ron will be quite the challenge as his views are so far off the current Republican ideals. I think a small government independent with some pull in another region than Texas might help.

The first person that comes to mind is Chuck Hagel.

He's realistic about it, he knows he has to change the mindset of the people and understand if they want a nanny state or if they want liberty. He knows people depend on the status quo and he would slowly transition from the entitlement system with reasonable measures starting with good monetary policy and limiting inflation for the poor. He doesn't plan on killing every government agency right off the bat, it wouldn't have the support in congress.
