Who should pay for my car being towed?

3 of my friends and I went to a party last night. The person hosting the party told us where to park, so we parked there. I was the DD. We didn't see a sign that said you had to have a permit. After we realized my car was towed we went looking and found a sign that said a permit was required, but the sign was not in sight of where we parked at.

Who should pay the $150 for my car being towed?

(we already got my car back) but who should pay for it

I tried to add a poll, it's not showing up tho

In a perfect world. However, I'm betting you'll be paying that full fee. It's no skin off of anyone else's ass if you don't get your car back - and as you fight with them trying to get the $$ out of them, your car is racking up astronomical per-day storage fees at the impound yard.

Get it out NOW, and worry about getting the $$ out of your friends later, if you can.

Uhm, its your car you pay for it ? I'd smack someone who wanted money for getting towed. I've been towed once when i was with a bunch of people, and i didnt expect them to pay anything.

I've gotten a ticket before that i split with a friend, but thats because he's my boy. I didnt expect him to do so.

Edit: But obviously he's not obligated to, and there's no way you'll talk him into it. Ultimately you're responsible for making sure your car is parked legally, but if I caused someone to get a fine because of my mistake I'd feel morally obligated to make it up to them.

Go back to the persons house and give them an upper decker after having jack in the box or white castle. Otherwise split it between your friends, if they are your friends then they would pony up.

since you were the DD, if youre buddies are worth a turd, theyll volunteer to split it with you. even after paying for your towing, they still come out cheaper, and safer, than a dui.

the host shouldnt be expected to pay anything. its your car.

I would think you'd have a bunch of people VOLUNTEERING to help pay for it.

First, the party host who told you to park there. And then the people you drove to the party. None of my friends - not a single one - would not be forcing money into my hand if I was in your position.

Doesn't anyone have REAL friends?

You would think so. However, I'm guessing OP is in college. Where a man with $5 has got about $4.97 more than most students on campus. You can't offer what you don't have, no matter how badly you want to.

Sucks, but I'm thinking OP will probably be paying his way out of this one.

If there really isn't a sign or the sign isn't visible, take it up with the city. Otherwise, it was your fault for not seeing the sign.

As much as it sucks, it's up to you to make sure your car is parked legally.

If I were with you though, I'd split it with you... Some people will, some people wont...

Too true. This should tell you who your friends are.

Didn't you pay for it already? The best you can do is to contest it with the city

It sure would be nice if your friends would split it with you, but I think you will end up being out the whole amount. Tough luck, though.

If you already got the car back, and the total was only $150, I'd call it a wash. Hopefully your road dogs will throw in a little cash but $150 isn't too bad. The headache from dealing with the city will quickly exceed the $$ you spent, if you try and contest it in court or wherever you contest such things.
