Who should I contact about an incorrect payment amount on my CC?

Do I contact the company or do I contact my CC and dispute the amount? I am assuming they tacked on a $10 late fee because I was a day late on my payment to the storage place, but the point is that I only authorized $41 since their website said I only owed $41.00 at the time.

contact both the company as well as the CC company. first contact the charging company and see if they can reverse the charge. if they refuse or you cna't get thru call the CC company and tell them you were overcharged, they may put a temporary credit in your account (depends on the CC).

even though you authorized only 41, you were late, so technically you probably will still be charged 51 at the end of the day.

The charging company doesn't know what amount he authorized and I'm sure couldn't care less. He owes them $51 and that's what they charged him and, if the storage rental contracts I've seen are the norm, he already agreed to pay that $10 when he signed up. If they were to reverse the charges, he would probably then owe $10 for each day he hadn't paid or some other fees.

If you owe it, just pay it. You might ask your CC what their policies are so you are clear on exactly how they handle such transactions for future reference.
