Who sends Error Reports back to MS?

I have that Error reporting "feature" that is for Internet Explorer, and I usually send the report...

Now, does MS really use this stuff I send?.. How does it help? What information does it send? When I ask to look at the report, its just a bunch of numbers and stuff...

oh well..

Yup, believe it or not Microsoft really does use the reports sent in by the reporting tools. However, it is unlikely in the extreme that they will reply to you when you send such a report to them. They do collect and collate and analyze the data from these reports. Couple of friends who work on the Redmond campus have told me about the process.

There's a similar "Windows Report Tool" in the System Information applet that lets you send a wide range of system data to Microsoft when reporting a problem with Windows.

Jim
