no laptop yet, it is one of the determinations I'm using.

My girlfriends gateway has a conector on the bottom but I dont see the docks on the gateway site.

IBM looks to have GREAT ones but IBM prices are just so prohibitive.

I wish Dell had them but I dont think so, or atleast have not found them yet.

A lot of consumer grade notebooks do not Dock and some won't port replicate. I believe you are looking for a port replicator.

All your major vendors (IBM, DELL, HP, Gateway) make port replicators and docks for their business lines of notebooks....and some businees notebooks will only port replicate, and some will do both.

Port replication is simply that.... gives you the ports needed (Natively) on the replicator to do KVM, USB, power, Serial, printer ports, LAN, modem, etc without swapping cables every time you set the notebook down. You generally have to buy an extra power brick to power the notebook through the replicator without having to swap your power brick from the notebook back and forth.

Docks do everything a replicator does, but generally come with a built in power supply, maybe an optical bay, a PCI slot, additional PCMCIA slots, and a lock to ensure the notebook stays on the dock. Docks are also bigger than the replicators.

I know they make port replicators, but I'd like to have a docking station for my Dell Inspiron 5150 laptop. I've yet to find one.

Aaaaah I remember with my Inspiron 5000 laptop, the docking station had additional USB ports and a 10/100 network card. Now that was nice (for back in the day).
