The Ford F150 gas tank was in the cab behind the seat? Driving a truck was kind of an act of faith back then.

I have driven many such trucks. One thing you knew when you had a tank vent leak.....

Just pray to not get T-Boned...........

Not really something i remember. The oldest i recall driving was a 77, and the location of the tank wasnt something i would have noticed if it did.
When was this a thing?

I remember when trucks were for work and weren't particularly desirable or expensive. Now it's like pulling teeth to find one that isn't a glorified Cadillac.
I've walked into dealerships with a check in hand to buy a work truck and discovered there wasn't one in the state.

I think that's before my time, although it's not something I really paid attention to as a kid either. Rode in the back of pickups a lot as a kid though, simpler times. Now you'd get fined for that.

I remember my grandfather's 89 F150 had 2 tanks in it. He'd switch to the full tank when we'd go on fishing trips to San Luis Reservoir for striped bass.

I had a Ford van for awhile at work that had dual tanks.

'81 F350 4x4 standard cab, manual hubs, manual trans and dual tanks. We'd sit 4 across as a family.

Passed my driving test in that beast. Rode on stock 33"s.

The first vehicle I ever owned was a 1990 Ford F150 Lariat XL club cab with dual full size fuel tanks.

I had a love-hate relationship with it. I loved that truck whenever I was driving it, but hated it whenever I had to stop to fill the gas tanks.

Finally had to get rid of it due to reliability issues -- repeated failures of the in-tank fuel pumps that Ford couldn't fix. Their final solution was that I would just pay them $750 every 4-6 months for them to install new defective fuel pumps. My counter final solution was to trade it in on a 1992 Chevrolet pickup that I could depend on to get me to work.
