I went to a party-type thing this weekend (more of a get-together) at my friend's place. I come down into the basement (where the bar and pool table are) and lo and behold I find a bunch of Genesis and Sega CD games there! At the time it was a sausagefest (all guys, no women or at least no available ones) so I sat down and popped in Sonic CD. Took me back years. Sure, nowadays we have slightly more advanced features in games, but for that era it was pretty damn cool. I got pretty damn far, made it clear through to the last level before some girls showed up and myself and the guys watching me decided our attention was better spent elsewhere.
Anyway, just though that was kind of a cool "back in the day" sort of thing.
P.S. Vaguely related: About 6 months ago I got out my own Sega CD and was abruptly reminded that it was the model with the ridges on the inside that scratched certain heavier CDs, one of which unfortunately being Sonic CD. I'd ordered a new copy on eBay but in the meantime I decided to see if a burned copy would weigh less and prevent the scratching from ever happening. (It does by the way) Since my copy of Sonic CD was unreadable only after the data track I figured I should throw some music in there to take the place of the scratched stuff, but on further consideration I decided "why not the entire game?" I did some researching online and got the necessary tools (Sega CD data tracks have a string of bad sectors at the end that hinder copying) and proceeded to throw on (in order of levels) Presidents, Bad Religion, Bad Astronaut, System of a Down, Cake, Mindless Self Indulgence and Nine Inch Nails. It's pretty funny watching Sonic speed along to a remix of MSI's "B**ches".
