Who registers .EDU domain names?

Bill

Senior member
The school I teach for needs their own .edu domain name, but I'm not sure where to go. Most registration sities claim ".edu" capability but do not have more than .com, .org and .net capability.

Just the USG still, huh? Welp, gotta go to that site then. Yes, we are a college in the U.S.

Bill,

only non-profit educational institutions can get the .edu domain. For-profit institutions must stick with com or net or whatever else

you don't have to be a college.

my HS has a site, and it is .edu... http://www.stuy.edu/

bill, why don't you go to a local college that has a website, and ask. try the head of the CS department.

or go to http://www.whois.org/ and look up a local college's website, and see who\what the site is registered to. but sometimes the contact info is empty...

Thanks for the replies, everyone! I took a look at the gov's naming formulas and I think I figured it out. Of course, since it's the government, I may have to "figure it out" a few more times...hehe...

Mday, several years ago all educational institutions were given a .edu address. A few years ago, however, the government decided to allow only colleges and universities to register such an address.
