Just curious who at Anandtech has read any of the Left behind series? What do you think of it? Have you read all of the books yet? Are you anxious for the next book coming out in April? The wait for the last two books is nearly killing me. :)

For those of you who are curious what I'm talking about, click here to find out more.

Oddly enough, I just saw Penn & Teller debunk the "Left Behind" series (among others) on Showtime last night.

Bullsh*t! - Yes, that's the name of the show (without the asterisk). Make your own decision regarding the truth.

No, I haven't read any of them.

I read the first one and was suprised. It wasn't all holy and everything until the end. It was sort of like a good sci-fi book. It tried the second one but it was just crying people getting religious and did not have what the first did so I put it down.

I read the first five or six, and need to catch up on the rest.

I'm troubled by a site that has tabs for "seek god" and "where to buy" right next to each other.

I read it, somewhat part of the first book. I haven't kept up to date with the series though. I know the second movie is already out, I saw it at Sam's Club. I plan to pick it up once it's on DVD.

Holy crap. This series takes a major crap when you approach the middle of the series and realize the author is just stalling the story because the series are all best sellers. I don't feel like explaining how flawed the plot itself is. Everyone needs to read the Christ Clone Trilogy. It is a stunning series that is not well known but should be.

Read a bunch of them just so I could have a valid basis for stating my negative opinion. I think the author's theology is crap, he can't write worth a darn, they're now some pop-culture phenomenon (which just causes the already seemingly rock-bottom quality to plummet), and a bunch of people are taking these WAAAAAY too seriously. Reader's Digest did an article, including a quote from some lady, "Wow, I didn't know it [the end times] was going to be like that!"

I'm a firm Christian, and my educated opinion on these (educated meaning I've read the books, read Revelation, and done my homework on historical beliefs about the rapture and tribulation) is that they are highly misleading and don't have an ounce of literary merit to redeem them.

This is a fiction based series, right? If I remember correctly the author's never said that this is exactly what will happen in the end times. I'm pretty sure it is a fiction based series.

And there are still some Christians that can't quite admit it yet... it took me 5 minutes to have my friends admit, the movie kinda sucked @$$. :p
I read the first book... it's fluff, and yes I don't quite agree with the theology etcetc. But who the heck cares? It's fiction... it's kinda like asking, "who reads Harry Potter?"

I'm well aware of that. His base theology though is not well supported by scripture. And a LOT of people that I've talked to about this take it as fact, without having read the literature that he derives it from. So the books are, to quote Adams, "mostly harmless", but for the readership. It has all signs of an almost cult-like following, which is a disturbing sign to me.

The movie was hollywood-ized (ie the relationship with hannah etc) so I didn't see it.. I've read the first one, have #2&3 sitting in my room waiting for me to get free time

I'm pretty sure that i saw the second movie on DVD yesterday at wally world.
I've read all the books that have been released so far, and yea, I'd agree that some of the books do seem like the authors were trying to stretch it once it gained some notoriety (considering it was originally only supposed to be what, like 7 books), but it's still an entertaining fiction series for the most part.
