Who pre-ordered their Apple Ipad today?

Did you reserve an Ipad today?

I've read that apple cust. reps are telling stores that walk in customers wont be able to get an ipad on release just because of how many reservations there have been.

I heard that 50,000 were sold in the first 2 hours. I may never get one, but I will be following it closely, see what happens with it.

People may not be the biggest fan of the iPad and thats fine. There may even be better tablet products from HP and Lenovo. But you have to say the iPad is on the tracks of success and it makes the 2nd gen product just that much more exciting!

I think that both HP and Lenovo are taking separate paths with their tablets.

Both of them make Windows 7 convertibles and slates, which is standard Windows 7, with multitouch support, but past that, not really optimized for a touch screen.

The new lenovo prototype, with the detachable display converts into an android device I believe, but so what? I may want to do different things when I detach the screen, but what if I want to kepe doing the same thing? What if I want to give a presentation, with my laptop driving the projector but want to still be able to move around with the screen? There concept is clever, and physically implemented well, but IMO, the software side is lacking.

Though I love Apple's stuff, I'm not getting the iPad. It hasn't wowed me and I already have an iPhone which is essentially the same thing. I'm going to wait and see what Microsoft has up their sleeve for the Courier.

Not impressed with the iPad at all but I should've preordered to I could flip it to some hipster for twice the price. I'll just continue to use the iPad mini I have now. 😉

I did buy a CULV netbookish laptop today for $350 though. :awe: I'll probably get a tablet eventually but I'm looking for one that isn't crippled out of the box or requires iTunes.

I wonder how high the resale in US will be considering people who want it can't just walk in the store to get one.

I think you'll be waiting for a long time, unfortunately.

It will be interesting to see if the pre orders sell out, if so, the prices will go pretty high.

Ive seen estimates of between 300K-1 million iPads available for pre order by Apple.

Touche. 😀

Also looks like if you need to send in your iPad because of a dead/malufunctioning battery battery, it'll only cost you a data wipe... and $99.

Funny how some people in the comments are saying it's a great deal. Guess that's comparable to buying another battery for your aging laptop. *shrug*

I kinda like that, I mean how can u complain about a whole new product? iTunes backs everything up. I dont see it as losing your data, I see it as 2 hours of ur time restoring from a back up. I would never complain if my battery died in a laptop and they gave me a new laptop...would u?

Sigh, dude, the batteries are covered for the first year under the basic (free) warranty, you can add Apple care for another year of coverage for $100.

If youre a DIYer, you can replace an iPhone battery for less than $10 on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/New-OEM-Iphone-...ccessories?hash=item4a9f4d88fe#ht_1861wt_1161

Im sure the iPad batteries will be similarly priced...

As far as the backup issue, any iPhone user can tell you, its simple as dirt to wipe your iPhone, and that iTunes backs up everything, sync occasionally and youre golden...

Apple has never positioned itself as a bargain retailer, thats just part of the Apple experience.

Hold up you gotta pre-order the case! I was hoping I could def get one of those when I walk into the store.

Yes. My brother pre-ordered his iPad and case at 5:33 AM yesterday morning right when the pre-orders opened, and his is slated to ship on April 3rd. I pre-ordered mine at 8 PM last night and my case lists a ship date of April 15.

who has had to replace a battery? must not know the how on taking care of li-ion. i have OG 16GB ipod touch with 80% of original battery running all apps. air video - really nasty power sucking apps 🙂

so you are not going to buy the maxi pad case on etsy? lol.

i ordered the 3G - i figure if apple makes a price adjustment based on the wifi sales figures - probably happen within 30 days of the 3G model.

now to get work to buy a few hp tablets (customers already knocking on our doors for these) demo units 🙂

it will be interesting - over my ipod, iphone, excluding work pc - i use my dell mini 9 with osx more hours per day - every day. just to surf after work.

the ipod and iphone and mini 9 (and imac and linksys wrt600n) are all nice to have because you can always ssh in and do some networking debugging - it seems carrying a linux/freebsd laptop around these days is not very fashionable.

I have a 1st gen nano that has maybe a few hours of playback life =( Otherwise perfectly fine... I need to re-rig a car power adapter. My 1st gen ipod mini has maybe 45 minutes of life, heh.. but that one I can, from what I can tell, replace easily, along w/ a 32GB CF card.

But I digress... I am waiting to see what the competition brings. $500 for an oversized ipod touch is a bit much for me. I love the idea, as I want a video/media player that I can lounge around with... but the dell mini 5 is more the size i want. But something tells me that thing is going to cost as much or more than the ipad =/

If it gets jailbroken quickly, I might reconsider if the alternatives are too lackluster.
