This for both the singles and the married and the gals can chime in if they wish.

When dating/hanging out/fooling around/just being together who pays? Do you, the guy pay, or does/did your girlfriend pay. Was it Dutch or did you take turns paying?

My wife and I were "together" for a year before we got married at the ripe young age of 25. I was an on/off student, part time/full time worker and sometimes slackard. She was a straight arrow employee at a bank. She paid for everything we did, everywhere we went, anything we ate and all of what we did. I never paid a penny for anything because I didn't have a penny. She didn't have a car because she took the bus everyplace so she loaned me $500 to buy an automobile so that I wouldn't have to borrow a car when we wanted to go out.

When we got married we drove to Vegas, she paid the JP $35 to get married and we came back home to her apartment.

What's your story?
 
I've always insisted on paying, and I usually do, unless my date has some higher moral issue with it.
 
I pay, because I make a penny and that's 100 times my girlfriend's salary.

I'd say that now-a-days, it's just a matter of who has the money to determine who pays. If my girlfriend had already graduated and was working full-time, then I wouldn't think less of myself for leeching (at least, temporarily. No one likes a freeloader-for-life); but I'd sure as hell be ready to take some flak from my friends, typically jokes involving "wearing pants".

Invest it at 8% compound interest, for 30 years.

Take whatever that comes out to, & buy her a car with the cash.

She works three months out of the year, at PA minimum wage (<$6 an hour). I made $32,000 last year.

I feel right paying. Although I wouldn't want them to expect it every single time. I would refuse her payment, but if she insists once in a while, that would be nice.
 
I've never been on a date, but I'd say if there is a drastic difference in income the person who makes more should pay.

If you make pretty much the same amount, then split it. Don't count pennies...just alternate paying for stuff.


Edit: By drastic I mean like one person works full time and makes good money and one is a student or works part time and doesn't make much.

We all "pay" in one way or another, the $64 question is, do you think what you gain out of it is worth it ?
 
I've never been on a date where the woman paid for anything.

I've been on dates where before the woman ordered she asked if I was paying and then adjusted what she wanted to something more expensive. :|
