So I was browsing Hot Deals and someone posted a deal for printed checks for $7.99+ship

I thought: Who the heck pays for checks??!! I've never paid a penny for checks in my entire life.

(Although my bank offers cute checks for extra $$ -- i've never bought them)

Who pays for their checks?

my credit union makes you buy checks, it is about the only thing that is not free from them though, but you have the option of just using the debit card from them, which is free..... Decent interest rate on my savings as well.

When I first opened a checking account, the crappy bank I was at charged me $17 for checks. I closed that account 3 months later when I decided to switch to Citibank, who gave me checks for free. (Opened the citi account because my local bank was not available in Chicago).

I pay for checks through my local credit union. But I buy the plain ones and I only buy one box at a time for around $9.00. That 1 box of checks lasts me about 2 1/2 years.

I pay for checks. In fact, I kinda thought everybody did. Seems ridiculous when you think about though.

Ya, I don't -- and I thought no-one did.

People still write checks?

I write one check a month for rent. Everything else is paid through online banking or with a credit card.

I used to write a lot of checks... back then, yeah, I paid for neat customized checks.

since opening up my newest bank account 3 years ago, though, I still haven't used the box of checks they gave me when I first joined up. I write 1 check/month (rent) and maybe 2 or 3 in December for christmas gifts for my younger cousins.

My bank gives them to me free.... but the only time I use them is to void them for payroll or to set up an ACH

you can get them free? I've always had to buy them from my bank (or one of those check places). Granted, I only bought one set after my 10 starter checks and am still using them...

I really only have 1 check I write a month. Health insurance. The state doesn't have an online system for contracted workers. It's old school "invoice slips" and a check.

I have written maybe 300 checks in 8 years. I print my own. OD was clearing out old programs for like 50 cents and picked up two. Got a package of paper for $10 years ago....and still have many left.

I still pay for them (at least I did when I bought them 4 years ago). If it weren't for school functions and a few places that don't take credit cards, they would never be used. Hell, I've used up every deposit ticket from most of the books and am now using the fill in the blank ones from the bank, but I have plenty of checks.

All bills paid electrnically or via bill pay. Never use stamps (for the most part) for the same reason.

My bank here in Canada is $30 for a single checkbook.

Yeah, sucks. But I only write one a month for rent, and occasionally one to authorize automatic withdrawl for bills...

Too bad on June 30th as I understand current checks will be invalid due to new standards for check design.

Money grab!

Who pays for their checks?

b4 online bill pay, i paid for checks becaise i ran out.

nowadays, i have a bank that i opened an acct with because they were convient. it was cheap no frills checking. it didnt come with checks. the reason why i opened it because i can deposit a check and ACH it to my main online bank.

i rather depsoit at a B&M rather than risk getting my check lost when i mail it to my online bank in their postage paid envelopes.

so no, not all banks give u free checks when u open a acct
