who pays for prom?

She asked me to prom, but my chivalrous/chauvinist instincts are kicking in (we do go to the same school). Should I offer to pay, or leave it to her? Is it ok to offer to pay half?

You've got to be really careful about this kind of things,
true story
A friend of mine went to our high school's prom last year, and was asked by a hot girl who was way out of his league. He was pretty much blinded by this, and paid for everything. As soon as they hit prom, she was gone, later to be seen dancing with another guy for most of the night. My buddy got burned really bad, to the tune of almost 500 bucks.

So, only do it if you're sure.

From what I understand, the women always pays for the prom. You should also make sure you arrive really late when picking her up and slapping her mom on the butt while loudly exclaiming, "Now I see where you got that fine a$$ of yours!"

your prom: pay for everything

her prom: offer to go in 50/50

this only applies to things like prom admission, limo, after-party, etc. in both situations, you're paying for your own tux and she's paying for her own dress.

IF "chance of getting laid" >= 50% THEN

ELSE
"pay half" AND "save money 4 pr0n"
END

Free sex > physics exam. I would've visited the prof ahead of time with some sort of excuse and scheduled make up.

The only thing the woman ever pays for is the wedding. Everything else is on you. At least that's what I've been taught.

Ouch!! That sucks! If he is good friends with her, then go 50/50. If he hardly knows her and wants to hit it, pay all the way...

That's what I find to be almost true.

For example, Junior Prom, I asked this sophmore that I was fooling around with to go with me. I wound up paying for everything except basically her dress and what-not.

As a senior:

I went to Junior Prom (hers) and paid for my tux, all the booze, and the pictures. The rest was her (wound up being about 60/40 her).

I also went to Sr. Prom as friends with this girl (also a senior). We only paid for our own expenses.

For less than the price you pay for the prom, you can get very nice escort or two. You won't have to wine and dine them and nor do you have to take them dancing. Plus you're 100% guaranteed to get laid.

Now which is a better deal?

My prom is tonight... I'll show you where all the money went.

Prom Tickets = (2) $75 = $150
Limo = (2) $50 = $100
Hotel Room = $150
Tux = $125
Corsage = $25
Prom Pictures - $50
Other (Alcohol, Etc.) - $100

$700 man... $700! For one night... this better be worth it!

This is why I'm not going with a date. Instead I'm going with a few friends who all paid their own way.

Tux = $85
Prom Ticket = $65
Total = $150

Not bad. And I'll get to dance with whoever I want. And lucky for me, it's the in thing now to go w/o a date. There will be quite a few ladies there w/o dates either. 😉

Your poor friend learned the lesson the hard way. Women will take any warm body that can put on a tux and pay for things to the prom. The prom is horsesh|t, any male not going with his SO should avoid it. Its just a recipe to get used.

Women asking you to the prom != women liking you. It just means they're reasonably sure you're not the kind of guy who will rape them in the woods when they get into a car with you. Nothing more.
