Who pays $350 for a power supply?

Compared to the hardware that actually require such a powerful PSU, the cost of the PSU is pretty much a non-issue. Does it matter if it costs $350 or $250, if you're paying $2000 for four high-end graphics cards?

They are for use in PC's still running Windows 2000!
What? No sane person would build a modern gaming PC on Windows 2000 - not even a decade ago.

EDIT: That PSU doesn't really cost $350 though.

The hardcore gamer, higher then enthusiast level. 4 video cards in sli or xfire that is who its for. gl

nobody wants machines designed to run windows 2000. low performance and even if you get them for free you pay in the form of higher power bills.

i see this sort of thing though in broadcast video repair. some people have production studios that run $1500 cameras. others run $30k cameras. it all scales on level of quality and output...
